25-Mile 1990 Yugo GV Plus Project for sale on BaT Auctions - ending August 27 (Lot #260,132) | Bring a Trailer If you missed out when these were new, here is your chance. I actually knew a friend's dad who bought one of these new. $4999 I think is what they cost.
Are you sure? That was a lot of money for something like that, back then. Twenty-five original miles sounds right, given their reputation for reliability. This is nothing other than a F.I.A.T. 128 restyled and assembled in former Yugoslavia. Museum value would justify that price. If I was rich enough to afford a $100 bottle of wine at dinner every night, I'd buy this, just for watching heads turn and jaws drop, while cruising former Yugoslavia. The fuel injection system on these is simple enough to not give problems
you are right lower that $4999. The original Yugo launched in the U.S. in 1985 with a price tag of about $3,990 (plus a $389 destination charge) Car and Driver. This made it one of the cheapest new cars available at the time, significantly undercutting most competitors and helping it sell around 140,000 units in the U.S. between 1985 and 1992
The destination charge was almost 10% of the initial price. I'm wondering if it cost that much to get it to the port of whatever, being either Baltimore, New York or who knows. If so, it's final destination in, let's say, California would have priced it out of making it a worthwhile purchase. Especially against a Japanese competitor
