The only way to see high teens in the city out of that vehicle running UNDER its OWN power is to swap in an 80s truck 6.9L IH diesel with a 5-speed and pray you picked the right axle ratio out back.

I've been half-heartedly looking at a 77 Eldorado with a 425. It just sucks because all I can think of is the fact that I will not be able to drive it much more than on Sundays, because the price of fueling it is gonna kill me!

Depends on the gearing. My first car was a 68 GTO with a 425 Caddy M22 4 speed and 3.08 gears, I tok it to Thompson OH to the Thompson Speedway to run it one weekend down the track. i got 19mpg there and back and ran mid 13's. It was a bone stock motor.

I know the 77 Eldos were known to get around 9-10 on average.

I own a '76. Recently did a highway test and got about 11mpg highway. If you want MPGs don't get a 460 Squire. If you want MpH -- you get one of those. Properly modified the 460 can get 500+ horsepower without a problem.

I looked at the ad to see if i could use some parts off of this wagon -- I must have the only country squire with power windows that made it into this decade. I still need a nice set of interior door panels...ARGH.

All-in-all i highly recommend this wagon, especially if you already own 3+ wagons. With the squire you can load your other wagons on a car-trailer and pull them to the carshow/strip. That engine is the same engine that went into very large motorhomes.
