Wix, you're so right. That's hilarious. Here is a gorgeous supposedly 4500 mile original '78 and we're more excited about the '73 that needs tons of work. So funny. This is one sweet looking long roof. I wouldn't even care about the "strippy" aspect of it because it's in such phenomenal shape. When I replied to the posting on the '73, I had mentioned too bad it wasn't white. Looking at this one is further proof to me I was right. Definitely prefer the white over that blue.
I have to say I don't think a window sticker would last on a car for 104,500 miles. I'm thinking the sun's ultraviolet rays would dry it out until it would just crumble off the window. Plus, you know darn well at one time or another, somebody was bound to roll down the window and krinkle it all up.

Yeah...I suppose we are a funny bunch, wix. But, there is a lot of car expertise sitting on this forum. I won't say that the wagon has over a hundred on it but I will say the speedo has been spun back and that it does NOT have only 4K miles on it. And I'm not saying it DOESN'T have over a hundred on it either. :D

So I wrote to the seller on Ebay, wrote that I wanted to see it up close and personal. He never wrote back. So I just looked up the company name in the yellow pages. I'm gona drop by today after seeing my dentist and see what this wagon really is.

GREAT, wagnut!! I find it quite interesting that he did not answer your inquiry. Me thinks he wants to sell it to someone FAR away sight unseen. What I THINK you will find is just a fairly well kept used wagon. A low optined model at that. I could be wrong, but, I doubt it.

Excellent Wagnut. I can't wait to hear what the guy has to say about it. I wonder if he knows the history of it.
Just a quick note here--having been a general sales manager at 3 different Ford stores, I could believe this was the owner's demo. The last owner I worked for constantly took the cheapest, most basic Taurus as his company car. "It'll be easier to sell when I'm done with it", he'd always say. That wasn't the case at all as noone wants a basic car like that. He was a "frugal", (as in cheap), son of a gun; maybe that's why he had his own store and I never did! One time he told me to get this strippy Contour prepped up for his wife's demo. It didn't even have cruise or power windows. I found a loaded one in the same color and got that one ready. He didn't even notice until about two months later when he drove it in one day. His wife, by the way, was very appreciative!! He owned a Ford dealership and wouldn't even have power windows in his demo. Can you imagine?!!

Snooter... ""frugal", (as in cheap), son of a gun".:rofl2:

I'm frugal, he was cheap, AND... my daddy was a pistol, I'm a son of a gun! :rofl2:

Sounds like a trick Jack Benny would've pulled.:slap:

So after I was done with the dentist, I went right over to Huntley, IL. It was not more than a 20 min drive. It was also in an area that I knew. Found the place, walked up to the door, locked. No one inside, hours 11-3 on weekdays.

So I found some other shops open, talked to who I could find. All pretty much said the same thing "don't see too much activity", "I don't know anyone from there", and "they seem to keep to them selfs".

So I went to get a haircut and something to eat (much as I could after a cavity drill). Showed up an hour later, still no sign of life. I looked in, there it was, the wagon. However I could not see any detail, the window was deeply tinted.

This has sparked my curiosity even more. I have Wed off too, so I think I'm gona take another drive there........

I want to find out whats going on. So far everything dose not add up.
    :naughty:

LMAO....This stinks more and more all the time! These guys sound like CROOKS. I thought this was supposed to be a dealership? Dealers I know sure don't have those hours and sure don't keep to themselves! If this is the kind of place I think it is....I would LOVE to take some of the boys over there and pay them a "visit". Like I said earlier....I hate nothing more than a crooked car dealer that rips people off. What I can't figure out is what's going to happen when the buyer gets there after bidding around 15K and SEES the car??? I sure hope this isn't the kind of place that you NEED to have the boys with you when you show up to take the car.
    Way to go, wagnut!

Thanks Wagnut, hmm, the mystery deepens. Methinks something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

You know looking at the pictures, you would think there would be pictures of the lower inside doors, frame, floors, and wheel wells.

I had a 1975 Lincoln Mark V with 36k original miles on it. I still remember how clean that car was. No ware marks on the seating, steering wheel, and arm rest. No chrome trim fit problems or pit marks, no trim missing (like the headlamp scrips on the LTD), no curb rashes on the wheel covers, even still had the original tires and 1975 wire set. And the engine bay was MUCH cleaner than that. No leaks, no rust, just a little surface dirt.

Here is a '75 Thunderbird with 8,000 miles. Take a look at the engine bay, from the power steering pump, brackets, air cleaner, and just the general condition, its clean of oil/grease and major rust on the valve covers (from this picture). This Thunderbird seems more accurate than the Country Squire.

I based my bid (above) on the eBay stupidity that I see all the time. But, if, as wagnut points out, the guy doesn't even answer you and you can't get at the car....I would think the bidding would have stopped by now. But,,,eBay stupidity prevails.....:rofl2:
