Why does the back seat have vinyl and the front velour? I always thought those blue velour seats looked dirty even when clean.

Very nice car. I wonder what the reserve is.

I wish him luck. You gotta ask yourself, who would pay $17,000 for a '78 Buick station wagon, regardless of condition? Who would want one so badly they would pay that much for it? It's not like you'll own some interesting piece of history or something that's highly sought-after. Unless someone out there has an unbelievable attachment to a wagon like this (maybe he was born in one), who would pay this much?

My guess is no one, which is why he's got it on ebay as well as for sale at his dealership. With ebay, he can test the waters without actually selling it if the bidding doesn't get to his liking, at least the first time. When he's run the auction three or four times and has noticed that the bidding has never reached even half of his reserve price, maybe he'll wake up and smell the coffee.

I have to love the Old Cars Price Guide in a situation like this. The OCPG gets poo-pooed all the time, but I think in this case they've got it right. Their value for a '78 Buick Estate Wagon in number 1 condition, which means better than showroom new, is $4,400.

In general, most of the GM 'box wagons' got a vinyl third seat, even if the front seats were cloth or leather. The only exception to this is the Olds Custom Cruiser, which got a matching third seat.

    Oh.....
They had that option, too. For adults who wanted to be comfortable in front, but had kids with ice cream cones in the back.

This one doesn't have the 403V8. It has a 350V8.
