    My LTD II wagon story:

In the Winter of 1978, I was delivering a one-year-old Ford LTD II wagon to the county sheriff, who had purchased the car from the dealership I was working at. It was a 55-mile drive, and since I used to commute with my brothers, who worked at another dealership, it was no biggie for me to deliver the car. I brought the purchase order to work that morning, fueled it up and drove it home that afternoon.

My brother-in-law and my brother were in my b-i-l's '69 Sport Fury, and I was in trail. The falling snow had now turned into a blizzard by the time we were maybe 15 miles into our trip home. With forty miles to go and visibility less than 100 feet at times, I was not crazy about the possibility of wrecking the sheriff's new car. What was normally a 50-minute trip was now into its third hour at the halfway point, which was a place called Dead Man's Curve. Go off the road one way and you hit a rock embankment. Go off the other way and there was a 230' drop-off with very little in the way of guardrails and such. After much butt-puckering on my part and a few more miles, we came across the roadblock the county had put up to keep traffic off the highway because of the storm. Who;s there? The Sheriff. I stopped, since I was the very last car coming the direction we were going, and said "hi" and showed the sheriff the new car.

The odometer shows 11k and some change, so I'm pretty sure it's around 111k. The current owner has lots of receipts and paperwork that the previous owner provided, which will most likely confirm the mileage. The current owner is pretty much the 2nd owner. He bought it 4 years ago. He has the original title showing the original owners, which was a guy and his 2 sisters (yes, all 3 names are on the title). When the original owner passed away, his daughter got the wagon, which she then sold to the current owner.

So, does anyone have any ideas on how this happened? Notice the gap between the bottom of the side window and the body of the car. It's a fairly significant gap. The other side doesn't have it.

Hard to tell. Could be something as simple as a improperly installed molding.

That would be my guess, too.
