Sometimes a car reaches a point that, in my eyes, are not worth the money to fix it up. Sure the body has very little rust, but where would a guy begin to find all the interior parts, plastic panels and weatherstripping. Now fix the engine and apply fresh paint. I feel you can buy a nicer, original car for less money than fixing this one up.
It's too bad it didn't have better care in its earlier days.

Alan, it was for sale for quite awhile in Texas, why didn't you buy it? I thought it was a good deal.

Hey, honesthilb, you gotta do what you gotta do. I think the vitriol expressed by "occupant" and "Blackfoot" is a bit surprising and very unwarranted.

I hate as much as the next guy to see a car crushed, but sometimes it's just not worth keeping and/or circumstances dictate you have to get rid of it one way or the other. You have storage costs for one thing. And as long as the car remains unsold, and it might very will sit unsold for years while continuing to deteriorate along the way, you haven't gotten any money out of it.

If these two think the car is worth keeping, let's see one of them put their money where their mouth is and buy it.

I'm NOT going to be crushing it tomorrow. I will keep it around as a parts car for my other cars. I thought it was too good of a deal to pass up, hoping it was gonna be in better shape than it was. Sometimes even a gambler looses.

"Jaunty75" You saying anything about me or against me, instead of walking away is what is really "unwarranted". Have a issue with my post, then go ahead and hit that fancy little REPORT POST button on the lower left side of my post, looks just like this [IMG] Then you let Fox and Stef handle it, its not your place to pass "unwarranted" judgement. :thumbs2:

    Back to what really matters.........
I am glad you are keeping her, she is worth more in parts then the pathetic $600ish you will see at a crusher. You might just come across another one at a deal with a rotted body and good interior. My I suggest, you look up here in NY to find a rotted one :rofl2:

Or he could just send it back to Texas where we'll freshen up the motor and drive it like that until they DO make weatherstripping for it. If you're of the mindset that you'd crush a car before attempting to learn how to sew a dang seat cover or a headliner or use various fiberglassing and molding methods to reshape the plastic bits in the interior, then you might as well buy a Toyota Venza and go on with yourself.

Do you see me crushing my Gran Torino because of cracks in the dash pad?

Do you see me crushing my Gran Torino because of rust in the rear floorboard?

Do you see me crushing my Gran Torino because I have, literally, a hole, in my butt, from sitting on a sprung spring in the front seat?

    :disagree:

Boy you are really kind of a dick. The car was in Texas, why didn't you buy it?? Then you could have done what you wanted to it! I own the car now and this is what I'm gonna do with it. End.

People come on..let's face it. From the photos alone one can tell this wagon will be a money pit when restoring. A huge amount of money that will never get back when the wagon will be sold.
A very low optioned SW as well which wouldn't have a high demand.
Now parts will be used again to save another...

(remaining clamshells will increase in price with every other that will be crushed)

I would have to say it is in worse shape than I thought. Hopefully you can recoup your buying price and the freight to get it home. Looks like a good donor car
