Boy that showed up here fast! I just posted that eBay ad just a few hours ago. I decided to go through eBay 'cause of all the interest I was getting. Plus, telling the same story about the car, condition, things done recently... really was taking a whole lot of time.

    Good luck, Chris!
Nice idea posting the thumbnails linked to your gallery.

So what are you going to be looking for next?

JwdTenn, thanks for posting that. I was going to update the group on this but you again beat me to it.

So when I posted the wagon on Craigslist the price I listed was just a bit lower than what I thought a retail price would be. I did this to make sure the wagon sells sooner than later. I had a few folks that were pretty interested and received some lower offers but I didn't really want to discount the price more than I felt I already did. Afterwards I figured I'd let the market decide and list her on eBay. Last night a dealer contacted me, we spoke and settled on a BIN of $9,500. I think this amount is about right, but the dealer has to factor in shipping and whatever paint touch-up's they may deem necessary. After this and some mark-up I'm afraid their asking price is going to be too prohibitive for domestic buyers.

So regardless of where the wagon ultimately ends up, I feel like, on this one, I am fulfilling my duty to the hobby by saving a car and allowing it be further improved as it moves up the price ladder. A sort of continuum of the process. Interestingly, this is the third vehicle I sold that was purchased by a dealer with the others being a '58 Dodge and a '68 IH Travelall. Don't know what it means but to me it's somewhat interesting.

As for my next project, I really want to get another long roof. I'm most smitten with Dodge's and from the mid to late '60's but love the '70's era Town and Country's too. In the meantime, I'll be playing more with my other time-capsule, a Dodge van customized in the mid '70's while it was in southern California. With the sale of the Custom Cruiser I can now buy the wheels, tires and side pipes I've wanted. Yah Hoo!

    Thanks for the update, Chris.

So where is the dealer where the Olds will be going?

She's going to a shop called MJC Classic Cars in Lakeland, FL. Luckily it's not Classics by Lash!

In 1972, I was working at Woody's Smorgasburger in Westwood Village (Los Angeles) while attending Santa Monica College. My boss had bought a '71 Plymouth GTX with a 440 early in the '71 model year (I had even borrowed it once for a date...), looked much like this one:

Well, the boss apparently didn't like the fuel bill on that 440, and the 70's van craze was in full bloom. Some new car dealers were even putting full conversions in them before they were even sold. So, the boss traded in the '71 GTX on a new '72 Tradesman that had already been outfitted with the little porthole window, wood paneling inside, and about 2 acres of shag carpeting. Boss let me borrow that to go on a date, too. Went to a John Denver concert I think, at the Universal Amphitheater. Nice girl, from Kearney, Nebraska. And yes, she was still a nice girl after our one date.

I hear 'vans' are trying to make a comeback......

Jaunty, looks like a little foreshadowing!

So, the Custom Cruiser finally got picked up the other day. Pretty sad day for me as she was the absolute nicest most pleasant driving old car I've ever had. Liquid smooth, whisper quite and simply effortless in every way. I did get to take a last and final driver earlier in the week to gas her up and than I started double thinking what I've done. Anyway, she got picked up and she's gone now and I've only got the memories.

Now that I've got the driveway space back it's on to whatever new projects pop up as well as the current van project. Wheels, tires, side pipes and graphics for the van are in order. I'm wondering if there's a way to integrate some wood graining into the van graphics?

I'm sure we'll be seeing her soon, Chris! I just hope it won't be with 20" chromed alloys........ My guess on a price - $15,000.
