Holy sh!t, wix!! That is some brave and exemplary work! I am dayumed IMPRESSED!!! Hats off to you, my friend. I've been doing cars for over 50 years, I've been a creative all my life, consider myself to have rather large balls but......no WAY would I have THOUGHT of the idea and no WAY would I have jumped into it. NICE work, wix. I really mean it. Very creative. I presume you have calculated the engineering numbers with that center post gone. Man...that's going to be a beautiful and unique wagon!
, Good question, Mike. The 2-door hardtop may have additional reinforcement in the rocker panel to make up for the loss of the 'B'pillar. Since it's a full-frame vehicle, shouldn't be too critical, though.
I think the frame should give it plenty of support. Might need to be more cautious about doing some serious roof rack surfing, though.
Foxy...as i'm re-reading all this...I must agree...same story for me !! Ive built cars for everyone ...BUT me Wix...
Not me, Rev. I just build them for me. Next one will probably be my last. I guess that's why it's taking me so long to find one! If I keep looking for the perfect one I'll probably kick the proverbial bucket wagonless!
I missed this thread but Holly Sh** is rite! The lines on those Buicks are stunning, I can't wait to see more and very nice splice for sure!
You know I 'build' cars in my head constantly. Here are a few: 1979 Ford Ranchero 4-door, mating a 4-door LTDII to tha back half of a Ranchero. 1972 Chevelle Malibu 4-door hardtop wagon, using side body structure from a Malibu 4-door hardtop. Some other guy on the web actually started building one of these..... '62 Thunderbird wagon, using wagon section from a '60 full-sized Ford wagon (and a lot of metal work) '95 - '96 GM 'B-Body wagon (like Caprice or Roadmaster), only done up as a Pontiac Bonneville Safari Anyway, with all my dreaming, I've never thought of the combo that David came up with. VERY creative, David.
Oh my! I just came across this thread! I had no idea you were doing this to the green wagon! Personally I like these cars original, but its a very neat idea and its yours, so have at it! I just wish I had your persistance. I cant even get my car running right, much less ever dream of taking on a project like this. Best wishes. Hope you get it to how you like it. I did like the old girl the other way though, as I thought it was an amazing car (I would have just added woodgrain ), but maybe after its finished I will see what this was all for.
Hey Tony, Believe it or not, months ago, you encouraged me on to do this. You said how you wish these wagons had luxurious brocade trim. When you said that, I knew this idea, this thing I have wanted to do for years was not crazy. Well, maybe it is , but I know you will love this crazy wagon when it is done. David
LOL... I know! I remember that conversation well. .... and I thought thats all you were going to do was to put the Limited interior in it... I didnt know you were making a 2-door wagon out of it! Wow.... what an undertaking! Cant wait to see the finished product. I like 4-door original wagons better, but I am anxious to see how this turns out. I am sure it will be nice and different! I am already liking what I see! Oh, when you get finished and if I ever get my wagon in road worthy condition, I need some body work done... so head on up here. lol.
