Mite be worth a weekend day drive to view it as it's in your state. You mentioned "can't tell about rust from the pics"... Have you spoken to seller about rust etc? Your description isn't very clear.

I can understand it being out of budget compared to the other one ( that's 5 hours away witch costs time and $ ) but all ready it's looking better $ wise. At the end of the day, if the frame has no issues and the body is good...... that other wagon is going to co$t a heep of a lot more than the price difference to make it look good and I'm not including the frame issues. I'll take a seat with wear and tare over a rusted frame anyday:) I am keeping in mind, both wagons need more and better pictures.

I asked the seller of the 71 to send pictures highlighting any rust. Those were the pictures I got. So, I'm going to call him tonight and see if I can get some input on rust. I've already canned the idea of the 1970 one. Now, I'm just deciding if I can deal with the ugly front end of that 71, and if I can get his price down a bit.

When an ugly car is yours, it is like an ugly baby. You can't help but love it. :D

    I kid, I kid.

Eye of the beholder, etc. Personally, I like the front of the '71 Ford. Of course, I used to own one. It's the wheels and the non-stock woodgrain that bother me. The painted-over chrome doesn't go down too with me, either.

I can recommend the 400 in this car. If you're going to have a stock spec 400, this is the year to have. Not a high-revving stormer, nor does it exactly put you back in the seat, but the power and torque come on with a satisfyingly smooth and steady feel.
