Certainly, alot more with a real dual exhaust, instead of a forked tip. Otherwise, it's a nice car, being a Meteor. I had to settle for a Comet, back then. Since I became Mercury-wise, I have always desired the Meteor, instead
63 mercury meteor That's not even duals. The owner before me just put that dual looking tip on. Still a single exhaust car. But also in great shape after 50yrs. All original. Have a great day.
Your Meteor looks great! I don't think I could sell it if I owned it. But if I was trying to maximize the return, I'd probably considering putting a little into it first. I would add a set of era-appropriate white-wall tires (maybe 1" wide? I'd check the sales brochure). If non-dinged bumpers were available at a reasonable price (are the bumpers the same as on a Fairlane?), I'd probably replace those. I would also consider new carpets, if you can match the color. I'd have it carefully detailed, professionally photographed, and list it on eBay. It is a rare wagon.
I agree about the detailing. I personally think that putting some sightly wider wheels, steel wheels and going with a slightly lower profile tire would make it look mildly custom. and could bring more $$. But going with the original style tires could boost your survivor status. I sold my 1963 Meteor Custom wagon a year ago for $4400, it was in very good shape. no rust to speak of. a little in the floor boards, and at the rear tail lights, bottom of the tailgate. But mine wasn't a wood panel. Those automatically bring more money if they're decent. Yours looks great. ebay might be a good way to go. did you sell it yet?? I'm curious. there are guys in Sweden or Finland that snap these up sometimes. I had someone interested in mine, but I ended up finding a local buyer. Good luck.
Good luck with the sale. You have a VERY rare, very beautiful wagon there. Were it mine, I could not think about getting rid of the old girl. She is a stunning example of a car that was rare when new and is almost unheard of 50 years on.
