    $40k may sound like a lot, but my guess it is an absolute bargain compared to bringing an inferior car up to his level.

    I agree they are very expensive to restore properly, the vacuum powered power windows alone were such a PITA to repair on the one my family had back in the mid 70's I have always avoided them, even though I really like them.
