My name is Jairus Watson and I am the new owner of the '58 Wagon. I joined this forum and will post from time to time when news warrants it regarding the wagon just to keep the history concurrent.

I am a graphic artist and illustrator by trade. Currently designing original hot rod t-shirts for an small up-n-coming company (partnership) called Rat Hole Customs. We travel to shows in the Willamette Valley currently in a 1964 Belair wagon. But felt the need for two such vehicles in order to take in multiple shows. Thus we began looking for a second vehicle, the rest is history. Rat Hole Customs guys are also on Facebook and you can purchase our t-shirts through the website.
But that is not why I am here...

My thoughts for the wagon for the moment entail nothing more than repairing the wipers, door locks, ignition switch and a mild tune up. But long range goal.... will probably look something along the lines of the two illustrations shown below:

Sort of a "Hot Rod Surf" motif is the plan. Flat black overall with wood sides (prob. hand made) retaining the steel wheels (black) and dog-dish caps of course.
Am I going to slant the "B" pillar? No! This illustration was done in '94 and like the wheels.... those things were at one time popular.

At any rate, I just thought I would add continuity with this post and will start a new thread at a later date.

    See you at the show!

:Welcome: I hated to see them sell the wagon they worked so hard on, but I am glad you have joined the forum and will be around.

I realy like both illustrations. Any chance we can convince ya to do illustrations of our wagons? maybe stock or customized? For a fee of course. :thumbs2:

That wagon deserved a permanant owner. And, it's very cool too and we all are sure glad you joined us.

Hopefully the sale can fund a new project for the kids.

    Good buy Jairus.

It was great fun watching the "rebirth" of this '58 and I'm very psyched we're still going to be able to keep up with it since Jairus bought it. Excellent job and a great ending/beginning.

I've been off the grid for a few days - I guess Jairus broke the news!

It was hard to let the 58 go, but I know it's going to a good home. And I'm also happy about meeting the great guys behind Rat Hole Customs. I'm looking forward to working with them in the future on some class uniforms and maybe some shirts to sell for a fund raiser.

But don't worry - I'll be back in September with the next SLHS Auto Shop project...

Those wagons were way ahead of time, think about it there putting a step like that on some truck tailgates now, at the end of the video they show a boy and his dog all the way in the back with the roof open and it full of stuff, going down a street or highway, not anymore they need to be in a seat, seat belted, those were the good oh days.

I am the one who bought the wagon at the beginning of this thread. Still have it today, runs great, very dependable.
But I never removed the lower "A" arms. Someone changed the front springs with Aerostar springs before I bought it.
Darned thing is damn low in the front.

Any professional work, I leave to the pro mechanics. But, if you are changing out the springs, I believe all you need a pickle-fork to drop the arm from the ball joint allowing you to change the spring. But you'll still need to get the front end realigned.
