Just wanted to share my new to me wagon. Been around cars for all my life and wanted to build something different! Gonna leave this in patina, putting new floors in, rest of car is pretty solid. It has 51k original miles and been sitting since 1969. Gonna be a budget build for now, 351 modified, going with and 8.8 out of an Explorer for rear axle. Upgraded brakes all around.
Welcome to the forum, My56mercwagon. Pleasure to have you here! I've got a 'connection' that you might be interested in....... Down San Diego way, they have a local character called the 'San Diego Highwayman'. He acts as freeway and highway Good Samaritan, helping people with breakdowns, out-of-gas situations, directions, you name it - and all he asks in return, is that the recipient 'pass it on'. And, it just so happens that one of his vehicles that he does this work in, is a '55 Mercury wagon. 'Beulah', as he named her, is mostly retired now, so he does his work in a '56 Ford wagon. This video talks about Beulah a bit, and shows her.... Here's another video featuring the Highwayman: Here's the San Diego Highwayman's You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/SanDiegoHighwayman
Looks like a beast... Start a resto thread in the "COSMETIC AND RESTORATION FROUM" http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/forums/cosmetic-restoration.9/ aboard.
I’m leaving it the way she is, just putting modern suspension and brakes on it, so I guess I’m really not doing a total restoration.
Welcome aboard! That is one fine looking Merc you have there. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your progress.
