Looks fairly clean. With all the Fairmont fans we have on here, somebody should grab it.

You know, I searched for years to find a solid Fairmont wagon. Now that I finally bought one, all these others come out of the woodwork.
    It's a nice car, I'd be all over it if it was a 2.3L or a V8.

If mine was a rust bucket, I'd go after it too, but I'm targetted on a Turbo I4 like a bloodhound with a pheasant in site and a bee-sting on my butt!

I want my FairFox to 'stang!:D(y)

Is there something wrong with the 200 engine?? I thought the Ford six was a good engine....no? Or do you just have to change a lot of things for a V8 swap?

Excellent engine. No quibbles. Strong as a horse. I always wanted the more powerful Turbo I4, but this Six is one of the best I've ever driven. Vacuum sits at 22 lbs, steady like a rock!

That's always been my experience and input about the Ford 200/6. I rather have a 302HO in one of these wagons but the six is a trooper. I have zero experience with a turbo 4??? Why do you want to go that route, Norm?

I agree. I had a 200CID in my first '68 Stang. Great motor. Peppy too. I also had the old 240 6 cyl. in my '68 Gallaxie. Another REAL good motor. 130,000 miles on that bad boy when I sold it. And of course I had the 250 in my Maverick. Personally, I love the Ford straight 6 more than anything because of how simple they are to work on. And also because they're becoming more and more rare. Sure, I love a V8. Who don't?

But there's something about an old Ford inline 6 that really gets me all excited and ready to explode with............No....Wait a minute.....That's blonds that do that to me. :D

    1) The I4 weighs less, for starters.

    2) The Std trans also weighs less.

    3) The I4 with Turbo can put out 195 HP vs. the I6 at 84 HP, which is necessary for cross-country travel through our mountains. The 302 with 145 HP hauled the loaded utility trailer from Guadalajara to here at about 60 MPH and gave me about 12 MPG, on basically flat highways, coming up I-281, from TX, to SD, and then I-75 to Canada. I can't complain because we were overloaded by at least 1,000 lbs.

    4) The I4 gets much better MPG.

    5) The I4 was so popular that getting parts (tuneup, etc.) will be easier than I6 parts for a longer period. (As long as Mustangs last anyway.)

    6) The Turbo with EFI lends itself better to water injection (which I do want to experiment with.)

    7) I can always find a stock I4, like they came in 1978 to 1981 and know that the car can keep on running, if I blow the fancy setup.

I really do like this wagon, and want to ensure its longevity and utility, while keeping it simple and comfy.

I have nothing against the inline 6's, they're a good motor. I've had 200's, 250's, 230's all were excellent motors. But I like the roar of the V8's, and I am a drag racer. I could build an inline 6, but it would cost a lot more to build. I'd go the Turbo 4 route like Norm, but parts are hard to find around here.
The 2.3L and the V8 share the same K-member, but the 6 has a different one. To drop in a 5.0, you gotta swap them out. Not a big deal, but just one more step to overcome.
