I've been lusting for one of these for weeks now. I don't think anyone sells them. Only 23 made by Coach Builders Limited, now Convertable Builders LLC. It's a 1994 model. The charge for the conversion was $15,000.
Intersting, I've never seen one before. Is the $15grand convertion price from back in the day? I'd hate to know what it would cost today....
There was one of those Lincoln convertible conversions at our local cruise in last Saturday. A friend of mine who collects nothing but convertibles was drooling all over it. I don't get it myself. I thought it was ugly as a coupe or as a convertible.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be a party pooper. I like the new Mustang convertibles, but these Lincolns look too bubble or teardrop shaped (aerodynamic) for my taste. I noticed last week a few blocks away, one of those Lincoln SUV pickup truck conversions from about the same vintage. I think they call them something like Blackwood or something like that. The pickup bed sides has several horizontal stripes on it to I guess give the impression of wood sides. Those Lincoln trucks are supposed to be rare too.
Just teasing. Actually the Blackwoods are starting to be collectable but not the later MK LT. I don't think Ford will admit that like the 02-05 Thunderbirds the Blackwood was quite a flop. I kinda like the swoopyness. I'm not sure when the 4.6 switched to DOHC but they scoot real nice.
I always thought that was a really sharp body style. They do have the Lincoln airbag suspension so that is something to keep in mind in terms of repairs or replacement. All Mark VIII's got the DOHC 4.6. I think '93-'94 were 280hp and '95-'98 were 290hp. I personally prefer the '97-'98, but all are nice cars.
