I just picked up a '66 Buick Sportwagon ( liek a Vista Cruiser with the roof glass), and the tailgate sheetmetal looks just like a 66 Chevelle I used to have... Anybody know if the external skin is the same on these? I know all the other body panels differ (except the roof and cowls)... Also, is the rear window the same as a Chevelle? Or is the Vista Crusier/Sportwagon glass 'taller"? AFAIK, all the tailgate internals are the same.
I've got a 67 Malibu in my garage now, I think the tailgates on 66 and 67 are the same? If you need measurements, let me know........
Tailgates Bill, thanks... If you have yours open, I'd love to get some internal measurements (I posted over on Chevelles.com in the "wagon" section)... According to the suppliers, the 64-67 El Camino skins are the same, so I'd think the 64-67 "Chevelle" wagons were all the same as well. Maybe a measurement from the bottom of the gate, to the main bodyline... Also, a measurement of the actual glass rear window (not just the opening, IF you have access). The window looks the same, but it almost does appear to have a taller opening above the tailgate... Thanks, Tony TC 1966_L78
Tony, I printed this out, and I'll take it out to my garage and get the measurements for yah. I'll have to put the tailgate window back up, and that takes jumper wires, as I don't have the car wired yet. I'll get back to you as soon as I can........ Bill

Tailgate height, total, from bottom lip to top, 23 1/2 inches Tailgate height, bottom lip to bodyline (bottom of quarter glass) 20 1/2 inches Tailgate glass at center (from window track to top)18 3/4 inches.
