Pretty interesting that the seller is the original owner. He should have 36 years of maintenance records. Price seems very fair.
Beautiful looking original Pontiac. Why does it not sell for that price? https://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/cto/4625502865.html
Location and demand? Remember we are the small majority that likes these things and even then most want a high/higher optioned wagon when it comes to this body style. Wagon also has high miles and what has to be the least desirable GM engine even more so than the Olds 307, the 301. If I was looking for a driver this wagon would have to be a stupid screaming deal just because of the 301, way over priced to me because of the engine even if it had low miles.
For a 30 year old car, 130,000 miles is not high mileage! If it has been well taken care of, and used more for trips than around town, that mileage is quite within reason. The condition certainly justifies the price. The lack of options and that engine do really hurt, though. I'm thinking this is maybe a $1,500 car, and at that price, a great deal for a driver. Just invest in seat covers!
I agree with what has been said about the Pontiac 301, but they either spun a main bearing before reaching 70,000 miles, or they live to 200,000 miles. There seems to be nothing in between. That and the 301 makes it easy to put a 400 Pontiac into the car.
302 engine? You would think after 36 years of ownership, they would know what size engine, unless they hit the 2 by mistake. lol. This is a nice car, even has the 3rd seat, on an otherwise plain-Jane wagon. Yeah, you never know about these cars as far as being able to sell at a certain price. As I have mentioned before - back in 2007, I could not even give away my very nice 1989 Pontiac Safari wagon. It was loaded and was a good running car with absolutely NO rust. Even the undercarriage looked like it was still 1989! I priced it as low as $700 on local ads and even on here at one point for $695!! I finally traded it for a 1989 BMW 325i coupe just to get rid of it, which I was able to sell for $2000, then took that and bought a 1984 Mercedes 190D for $1800, which I sold for $3300. In the end it worked out in my favor, but no one wanted that car. Pic of my wagon the day I got it in 2001: (I paid $700!) Ironically my car was in Raleigh NC, which is not too far from where this '78 wagon is located. Just before I sold it... in 2008 I think it was... (the wood-grain was starting to flake, but was still a solid car with a nice interior). A piece of trim fell off, but I still had it. The man said he wanted it to drive as he needed a bigger car, but later I am afraid he only wanted it for a derby car.
It's back and the price is actually up to $2900. Must be a flipper. Good luck with that. http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/cto/4744706836.html
