This was at the River Classic Car Show right along the St. Clair River in downtown St. Clair, Michigan. Beautiful setting. A bit cloudy, and rain came later, but we got to see several wagons, including, in my opinion, one for the ages. First is a 1950s Studebaker. I don't know the year or model, and I only know it's a Studebaker because of the scripts on the rear fenders. No information card was present, and there was no one around to ask. It has been modified. 1977 AMC Pacer. This is a wagon, right? The owner says so, and I think so, too. He said the car has about 60,000 mile on it and is original, including the original paint. Looks great! 1995 Chevy Impala SS wagon. This car is as cool as all get out. 1953 Chevy Sedan Delivery. OK, this might not technically be a wagon, but I think of them as being wagon-like! I saved the best for last. 1973 Olds Custom Cruiser This car is gorgeous. I spoke at length with the owner and his wife. He says the car has about 50,000 miles on it, which is unusually low for a wagon, which were generally driven until they were used up. He said the paint is original. The car is what I would call "average-optioned" for the day. Air conditioning, tilt wheel, power tailgate, AM/FM/8-track (and he has a box of 8-track tapes), clock. But no power windows, locks, or seat. No cruise control. No third seat. No rear window defogger. No luggage rack. But who cares. The rear window weatherstrip is in excellent shape, which is unusual for these cars. He said he wasn't sure, but he believes the car was originally sold in Florida. The wife said that they have received many offers to buy the car, and they have refused them all. She said that one guy gave them a sealed envelope with his offer inside. He told them to keep it and open it if they ever do decide to sell it. They keep it in the glovebox unopened. They have not been tempted to peek inside. The only flaw I could find was a small dent on the top of the tailgate towards the left side. It can be seen in the second photo below. I didn't ask how it got there or if he has any plans to have it fixed. It's minor. I don't think that steering wheel is original. Steering wheels do deteriorate on these cars simply due to age. The plastic shrinks and cracks. Perhaps this one was put on to replace an ugly one.
You certainty did! SIMPLY STUNNING! Did you give the wheels any attention? They look to be period correct factor mags (caps) ? Thanks jaunty for sharing with us those cool Longroofs!
Incredible condition, you found a unicorn! A 73 with expensive (for the time) a/c but no rear window defogger has Florida car written all over it.
Looks like there were some neat cars there. That Custom Cruiser is definitely a gem. I love how much love these cars are getting now. It's well deserved.
