Well if for no other reason the ‘68 Fords in the background seem a little out of place. Didn’t he die in 1955? Unless maybe he didn’t. Wasn’t Elvis supposed to be 300 pounds of phone books when they buried him?

I was curious about this pic, so I looked up some information. Since that Pontiac 'Parade convertible' appears to be a new '63, I think we are at the 1963 Daytona 500. Looking up the event on Wikipedia, I found the following info on the 4 race cars pictured, from left to right:
#16, '63 Mercury, driver Roger Ward
#42, '63 Plymouth, driver Richard Petty
#57, '62 Pontiac, driver Pete Stewart
#62, '62 Mercury, driver Curtis Crider

This pic was most likely taken before one of the two qualifying races, because #16 Roger Ward, and #57 Pete Stewart didn't qualify for the BIG race.
#43 Richard Petty DID qualify, and came in 6th in the BIG race. #62 Curtis Crider came in 50th (last) place in the BIG race, retiring after only 4 laps because of 'handling problems'.

The BIG race was won by Tiny Lund in a '63 Ford, with an average speed of 151.556 mph (that's 243.906 kph) The 1963 Daytona 500 was the first NASCAR race broadcast live on ABC's Wide World Of Sports.
    ..............................................................................................................
EDIT: My brain wasn't working correctly this morning. I saw that Petty Blue Plymouth race car and I just assumed in my head that it had the famous #43 on the side.... Well, it didn't. It's #42. Obviously a Petty Racing team car, but NOT Richard Petty's. So.... I looked it up, again. #42 was driven by Jim Paschal. He made the BIG race, starting in 34th position (Richard Petty qualified in 23rd position). Unfortunately, Jim Paschal's #42 developed ignition problems, and they retired the car after 72 laps, officially finishing in 36th place.

The #42 Petty Blue Plymouth is definitely a 63

Oops! Thanks Jeremiah for pointing out my error. Richard Petty's car # has always been #43, which is what my brain saw. The car in the pic is #42. See post for correct info.

    It's the 1973 Footney-Creach Pushme-Pullyou! I haven't seen one of those in...well...ever, I guess....

I think that car used to belong to our president. It was built for someone who doesn't know if he's coming or going.

Reminds me of the MAD Magazine sendup, "The Crockford Files," where Crockford and his old man are in Angle's FWD Caddy, and it gets blown in half, causing Angle to complain that he loaned out a Caddy and got back a chariot!
