I was just thinking, there have been songs either about or featuring cars such as Corvettes and XK-E Jaguars, GTOs, Chevys, Mustangs, T-Birds, Hot Rod Lincolns, Nash Ramblers, and even a Super Stock Dodge. But how many songs actually feature a station wagon? Woody wagons certainly get mentioned frequently in songs by the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. Songs such as Little Surfer Girl by the Beach Boys is a good example. But what about your more common more modern all-steel station wagon? There are only two songs I can think of that even mention a wagon thats not a woody. Theres the 1973 top 10 hit by Loudoun Wainright III. Its a catchy little tune called, "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road", and it contains the lyrics, " ...he didn't see the station wagon car, the skunk got squashed and there you are, you got your dead skunk in the middle of the road...". The only other song I could think of, I don't really know. I heard it a couple times maybe 10 years ago on some country music station. I don't know who sang it or what the title was, but I'll never forget the lyrics, "cruisin in my station wagon tryin to keep the tail pipe from draggin". Anyone remember that song? And does anyone remember any other station wagon songs that portray wagons in a more positive light? It seems that station wagons don't get no respect from song writers unless they're woodys.

Boy, I haven't thought about that Dead Skunk song it years. I remember when it was out.

I'm a Country fan and that other song sounds familiar, but can't recall it.

Thom Shepherd has an album/song called "Country Squire". I've actually never heard it...now, I'm just a gonna have to. The album cover shows him sitting on the hood of a Country Squire, but I couldn't say anything more about the song, though...

I've got one called Domestic Life by John Conlee.

    Listen to the first verse
Not a great video but the only one I Could find.

I didn't read Jim's post fast enough, but this is the song he was talking about. It's my Mom's ringtone for me on her phone and one of my favorite songs.

I used the song for one of my youtube videos. If you can not see it on here, go to youtube and type in Country Squire Tribute. This will be under my account fordwagonnut.

LOVE the country squire video. I got a few out loud chuckles out of that.

I've got one by George Strait called "The Best Day." I couldn't find a good video but here is the part where the wagon is mentioned.

We loaded up my old station wagon
With a tent, a Coleman and sleepin' bags.
Some fishin' poles, a cooler of Cokes,
Three days before we had to be back.

Also Kenny Chesney has a song called "Outta Here" that mentions a station wagon.
