My tranny is leaking at the linkage. I have a Turbo 350 in the wagon, but of course, I don't know what it came out of. I am trying to get the correct seal. It is a smaller than dime size seal that has to be pressed in. I have done some surfing on the internet but without a car make/model I cannot zero in on the correct seal. Any advise?
There should be a build tag attached to the case, right? A trans shop should be able to decode it for you.
I may be wrong, but I thought all TH350s were the same, except for the rear tailpiece where the speedometer gear inserts into. Those had different size holes based on the Chev or BOP they were going in. I thought that short shaft and long shaft were the same up front as well, with only the shaft being longer. Is that not correct? If it is, then a seal is a seal where that is. Someone double-check me though.
"Locate the transmission code. According to Teufert.net's GM turbo 350 transmission page, the code for 1969 to 1972 transmissions is on the passenger side accumulator cover. The accumulator cover is a small, round dome-shaped cap, located in the middle of the transmission. For 1973 and later transmissions, the code is located on the governor cover, located at the rear of the transmission surrounding the output shaft."
FWIW Sonnax makes a repair kit for the 350 trans that includes the manual shift shaft and seal. On Rockauto's site the seal I linked to above shows applications from 1964 to 2019. My guess is the 350 used the same seal throughout its run. If you can get the old one out you can compare it to the dimensions on my link. https://www.sonnax.com/parts/4493-shift-shaft-seal-kit
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had a chance to crawl under it yet but will tomorrow. Today, I felt like I needed a break and went fishing.
