Canada and the US have been helping homeowners, jointly, for years with some great Home Efficiency software tools (free of course, since we pay the freight in taxes).

I used the Retscreen software since 2001 or so to plan and make the changes to my house to be more efficient. They send update email whenever they add new material or features like better insulation, new improvements in solar, wind, furnaces, AC, windows, door construction, etc.

Well, they got bragging rights last week, and got an endorsement from the World Health Organization (WHO), so they sent me an email with a few links. Most of them are for power producers, not consumers. This one is for consumers - private energy systems:

If you want the software, its a huge 44MB download, AND you need EXCEL 2000 or higher.

When you register, say yes to email notices. There's no spam. This a geek team, no foolin' around. They sometimes mention new sealant types, and the other things I mentioned above. I saved myself about $800 in lost heat annually with their window tips, and I don't need AC in the house.
