Hello everyone, I'm new to this great forum and happy I found it! I have fulfilled my childhood dream and imported an 1989 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser from Florida to Germany. Among a few other things I am working on, I have the following problem: The "Tailgate ajar" lamp in the dashboard lights up permanently. Doesn't matter whether the car is parked, the engine is running, the key is in the ignition lock, or only ignition on but engine not running... also the lamp in the trunk lights up and sucks the battery empty. I already found out, that there are two contacts in the tailgate, both are working, I checked them with a measuring device. Both have contact, and when I press them, they open the circuit. Can anyone tell me what triggers this lamp(s)? Maybe someone has an idea. Anyone knows, what these contacts do and when they are pressed by the mechanisms in the tailgate? Thanks a lot and best greetings from Bavaria Gabriel
Hey welcome to the forums Gabriel! Hopefully someone can steer you in the right direction with that problem you have. If you go to the Welcome Wagon thread and introduce yourself you might get a faster response to your questions. Oh by the way if you got any pictures of your wagon post them, we love pictures around here! Hope you enjoy the forum!.....Longroofs Rule! Ps. I'm partial to Oldsmobiles I own one myself !

Without actually standing there with the car and following the wiring, it sounds like the cargo lamp circuit and the TAILGATE AJAR lamp on the dash are both shorted to power. You need to access the wiring run, from the rear harness to the cargo lamp itself, and from the harness to the switch. I'll see if I can find a wiring diagram, but until you have looked over the wiring, we'll go on the assumption this is the problem, a short to power on both circuits.
Surprising no one, I could only find two diagrams that are for your car, and they do not have the circuits that's giving your car problems. But here are the two diagrams, both photos were shot from a laptop, but are shot in 18 MPX.
Good morning, thanks for your help and answers! I also think, I have to check the wiring circuits. I ordered a GM mechanical repair book for my car, hope it has the right diagrams in it and helps... Thanks for the wiring diagrams! I'll write you a PM. Cheers
Thank you, hope the info that silvertwinkiehobo gave you helps! Any pictures of your wagon? Good luck with you "short".....Longroofs Rule!
