Hello Does anyone of info on how the spare tire and jack\jack handle is stored in a 62 Ford Country Sedan? Pictures if you have them. Also does anyone know of were I can get any informational stickers that would have been in the tire storage area? Best Dave sanddoc@gmail.com
Actually, If it's like the newer cars, it's fairly straightforward. Do you have a J-hook? It's a rod shaped like the letter J, with threads on the straight end. The hook part would slip into a sheet metal 'strap' welded to the body, and the straight end goes through the center hole in the wheel, then the jack base slips on and the round part you insert the jack into, it goes into the center hole in the wheel. Then you have a wing nut that spins on, holding the jack base against the wheel and holding the spare against the side of the car. The jack itself usually will slip into a couple brackets across the space and has to be removed to remove the spare. It'll likely be very similar, if not completely the same. Have you googled to see if you can get an owner's manual for your wagon? Or at least a PDF of an owner's manual?
Mines not like that at all... I think there is a piece missing but not sure, thats why I asked for a picture... FYI, this is the old bumper jack style... thanks for the input...
Yeah, I'm referring to the bumper jack style, up through '90 or '91, IIRC. Maybe Slidemanic or Leadslead could take pics of their '73 wagons' spare tire setups?
I did a google search for the owner's manual; you can get a reprint for about $12: http://www.faxonautoliterature.com/1962-Ford-Galaxie-Owners-Manual-Reprint-P13750.aspx And the only image I could find that shows all the parts to a ford spare tire and jack was this: Now, I know it's not a wagon, let alone a full size vehicle, but the parts shown here and how they're stowed together, pretty much is the same all the way up through the early '90s. Long threaded rod goes through center hole, jack baseplate goes over rod and into the center hole, and wing nut holds them down. The jack itself and the tire iron stow together.
Mine fits in the passenger rear fender well, has a rubber strap that sits under the tire to 'assist' you to get the tire out when you pull one end. The bumper jack sits next to the fender, then a J hook sits on the jack, the threaded end goes through the center of the tire, then the bumper jack stand goes on the threaded end, then a locking or non-locking wingnut threads on the end. I'm missing the J hook on mine and the tire iron. I'll post a picture later of the sticker if it seems yours fits in a similar way.
