Well I have had a full day with the Cutlass Cruiser. It needs 4 tires. All vintage 80's "SEARS" tires. The whole 9 yards on the front end.All bushings ties rods ball joints everything. The front seat need redoing. The fan motor does not blow. And of course bondo and primer. Feeling a little overwhelmed. The front end work intimidates me. And I never have liked getting under a car on jack stands. An unforseen challenge: Debating with the parts guy.I tell them I need stuff for a 1975 Cutlass Cruiser. That does not exist in their computer,I have choose between "Custom Cruiser","Vista Cruiser", or "Cutlass". Well I know the Vista was the full size car, and I didn't think the Custom existed yet,so I went with Cutlass Chassis parts.....Both outer tie rods shot. Will put them on a see if that cured the violent wheel jerk above 10mph. Then tires. Then see what all the alignment shop hits me for to fix the front end.More project that I thought.
Buy a few 2x8x8's. Cut them to 16 inch lengths. Nail them together face to face. Cheap jack stands! Phil
I've had 2X12X24"s with another board maybe 8" shorter plus the third 8" shorter yet on top. Three boards tapered at the front end and all nailed together with the rears even. Originally they were to drive my RV on to level, adjusting each and stopping when level. They make great car jacks for oil changes, etc. I even added a metal overhead garage door type handle on the side of each for easy handling. Patent pending.
Yup, pretty eazy to make, strong and safe. Under frame or tire...... IMO if used for tire, screw a extra couple boards on just incase car may roll.
Who said anything about paying for the lumber? You a carpenter should have cut offs....and then there is many other job site waist lumber wise But you do have a point. I have both, I use Jack stands if it's a fast job. If the car will be on it for awhile I prefer the wood. I have wooden ones that were made for work, for a one time use and they were going to be tossed out.
Cat: What you are describing is, in the film business, called a 2-4-6, and have been around for years. Your patent idea is a wee bit late, I'm afraid.
