So, I've been busy lately with the '77 Delta...

I've got the suspension 90% rebuilt, just gotta replace the sway bar end links, rear shocks, maybe rear control arms if I find a good sway bar, and that's it.

Springs, front shocks, all the steering linkage, upper and lower control arms have all been rebuilt. Cost about $750 including parts and labor.

Spraypainted my car flat black, roughly $100

Got a couple brand new (But used) 215/70R15's for the front of my car for $35, $73 mounted and balanced. Car has a nice stance between those and the Milestone RL828's in the back, LT235/75R15, 6 ply light truck tires, little noisy but I can't hear it over the stereo, wind noise, engine, or all of the above.

Got a Craigslist Holley 750CFM 1460 80508-3, the 350 SBC crate engine likes it more than the 600CFM Summit Street & Strip rebranded Holley I had on there. Came with a drop base Holley air cleaner, and fuel line, $150. They fried the air cleaner though, primed it then hit the gas, it's pretty crispy, I'll have to get pictures of that tomorrow. You never... EVER... Prime the carburetor then hit the gas pedal. Unless of course you like pyrotechnics. :D

Oh, I also reinstalled the trim around my doors, drip rails, all that. it ain't pretty, but it's a damn sight better than the four shades of gold the car was.

I am still considering selling the '79 and starting a wagon budget fund, that or I might build a rat rod if a certain vehicle I have recently learned the existence of pans out... If not, I'll find me a wagon some way or another.

Love the new carburetor, coming back down I-81 I was doing 65-80 the whole way back (60-70MPH speed limit), accidentally buried the speedometer needle passing some idiot who wanted to play leap frog... This carburetor makes some fun noises when you stand on it, hey I'm only getting 10MPG anyway, might as well enjoy it!

You don't have to worry about someone parking next to you in the parking lot!

I'd go a little more "Mad Max" with it...just because!

I plan too, tubular bumpers, probably some mesh over the windows, tricky part is the drivers side window mesh will have to open 'cause that window legally has to open, and I should make the windshield mesh open partially so I can get to the wipers. Maybe throw on a good roof rack too. I have plans for this car.

Great part is there is no law against mesh covering windows, just that the drivers side door and window must open and go up as well as down, or down as well as up, I forget the exact words. Other three, four, or however many doors don't matter, alternatively you could just have no doors at all. :D

Yeah I really want to find me a wagon soon, but I've got a project I want to start when I get the '79 sold. It involves a early '40's Dodge pickup cab, a GM 2wd frame and driveline, some zoomies, rust, and an apocalyptic appearance. :D

However if that Dodge falls through, I'm gonna see if there is paperwork on a 80's Caprice wagon up in the yard, if it's still there. It's missing the seat, steering column, and a few other bits. They wound up in the wagon I use to have many years ago, my dad needed parts and it was the only wagon.

I'm going to check out the Dodge this weekend hopefully, it's hidden back in the hills of the yard and I can't get there by my car. I'll have to convince my dad to take his '83 Ram up there on Saturday so we can go see it. You don't need a four wheel drive to get to it, but you sure need ground clearance. :D

So we'll know where I am headed after that...

Probably not, they made the law because people kept putting various built up race cars on the street. Makes no sense as far as I am concerned, because welding the doors shut is no less safe than having none at all. :D

Thanks, all I used was four cans of Krylon dark grey primer and uh, so far... About 8 cans of 97c "Valspar" Lowes brand flat black spray paint, 97c a can. Bought a whole 12pk plus 4 cans sitting on it. I still haven't used them all, but I will. I still have the deck panel, and a few other bits to do. Those heavy disposable painters masks 3m makes are real nice, they're meant for paint guns rather than rattle cans, but they work great.

If you want to smooth that flat black out and give it a finished look, use 0000 steel wool on it. Gives it a smooth, semi-satiny finish.

I agree. I don't like flat flat of any color.
I've also heard that primers are not water proof. Might check and see.

You'll want to seal that, for certain.

I've heard of people spraying primer with WD-40 to seal and make it shiny.
Imagine later trying to repaint or touch it up!:banghead3::(

You can use WD40 to make almost any paint shiny - until the first wash or rain. It lasts maybe three to five days otherwise. Great if you have something with weak paint and you want it to look good for pics on CL, fleabay, kijijijijijijiji, and such!!! It will NOT seal, and it's a waste of time using it on primer - it's not gonna shine with WD40. Been there, done that.

Well it is actual paint, I only used some primer, for the most part I just roughed up the paint underneath and threw 97c cans of paint on the existing paint. Wasn't looking for perfection, and I'm not too worried about rust considering the fact that most of the car wasn't down to primer, and what was has an extra coat.

Sure it won't last, but it'll last long enough. If I cared about rust I wouldn't have painted over the rust on the drivers side door or passengers side fender, I just wanted something that wasn't gold. :D
