Back in the '50s, there was a TV show set in Arizona called Sky King. Many of you will remember it. (And Sky's niece Penny ) Sorry if this has been posted before, but even so, its worth a look. The show stars a Cessna airplane, but the co- star is a Mopar station wagon! (there are some people in the show too.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=QottyzDRzXE
I remember duke-ing it out with my brothers over the SkyKing figures in Shredded Wheat. RIP Penny .... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/28/arts/television/28winters.html
Fury the horse was on after Sky King, that horse was my favorite Hollywood celebrity. I remember an episode of Sky King where the law found some dead fish full of stolen diamonds in the back of that wagon. I couldn't comprehend that icky girl Penny flying the Songbird the first time I saw it her do it, blew my young male supremacist mind almost almost as much as seeing Lassie's mom/June Lockhart driving the pick-up truck in Lassie. I'm better now.
I loved that show. If I remember right there was an episode where Sky King had something going on with the Navy and he landed the plane on an aircraft carrier. Very cool.
Funny how fake the background looks in the beginning with the wagon. I don't remember it looking that way when I watched it as a kid.
Oh man, I must be really getting old. I remember Sky King as a radio program. I listened to it whenever I could along with The Shadow Knows, The Green Hornet, The lone Ranger, Red Ryder and others long forgotten. In this clip, if I am not mistaken, the aircraft is a Beach B-18 which was later replaced in the show with a Cessna 310 (I trained for my multi-engine rating in a 310). I love most of the wagons of the 50s, especially the '59 Buick. Oh, the memories. - Dan
Man! You sure brought back memories for me, Cab! I listened to all those shows and more. Even my mom's soap operas during the day.
We've discussed 'Sky King' before, but certainly worth another look..... Here's the 'Sky King' website..... http://www.skyking.com/ Caballero's correct on the planes. I was a HUGE fan of the Cessna 310, all because of Sky King. Don't remember any episode about SK landing on a carrier, but then again, it's been 50 years...... Kirby Grant, the star as Sky King, actually did the flying. In fact, he owned the planes.
