lebanon, tn. This by far is the most fun event every year. I hate the term redneck by what can you do. I swear it's probably 2 or 3 acres of everything everywhere. I took these pics in maybe the first 30min I was there. It's a rat rod show but people bring all kinds of stuff. I like this sort of stuff more than say a "good guys" show because Most of this stuff was "built, not bought". You kinda have to watch your step because people are flying around in all sorts of home made contraptions. Really a lot of fun.
Thanks Grizz. These photos remind me of when car shows and owners were real car guys. We've probably been to Lebanon in the past. Redneck and hillbilly used to sound degrading to us. But we've been all over the hills and mountains, and lived among rednecks over 23 years. I'd call them friendly, decent, human beings, that's what I can them! We met very few rednecks we didn't get along with. On the other hand, a lot of city slickers think they are too good to build their own car and talk to regular people. Well, I try to be regular people when in public. My kids and wife make me be good! Some of the first real rat rods we saw was in a place called Old Town near Kissimmee, Florida at the weekly Saturday night cruises. Lots of creative ideas, nice home built cars, and rediculous junk. All fun to look at and learn from owners what those parts were and why they built it. Other fun events are Kustom car and Goth car events. Who'd think glass house door knobs would look cool on a '49 Chevy coupe with a rat sitting in a mailbox on the carburator? At least most could tell you what year the parts were and what color it was.................... mostly rust there. I've asked guys at large car events about the paint, the color, the engine and they don't have a clue what they owned. Checkbook street rods, kit cars, and 2018 Camaros don't interest me. Got More????????????
That's not even a fraction! It's a two day event, I camped out two years ago and it gets really cool at night. Absolute motor madness is all I can say, and then around 9:30 pm all the engines shut down besides the occasional mini bike or golf cart. It's a really neat experience. Lots of fun. Highly recommended!! I'm holding a discussion somewhere on here called "let's talk about it" where I am discussing some of the things I thought were cool. Feel free to chime in!!!
That's not even a fraction! It's a two day event Are you holding out on us? Add the word MORE after without.
It's neat to see such an array of wagons at this show. Most shows I attend there is only one wagon. Mine.
No camping this year but it was an amazingly beautiful day. It was a tad hot but they were selling diy shaved ice so it wasn’t too bad. I roamed around for about 3 hours before I got thirsty. I didn’t take as many pictures this time but here we go. Parked the car, got out and looked behind me, boom. first wagon sighting of the day in the parking lot.: turned to go buy my ticket, POW! Double wagon sighting. I knew it was gonna be a good day: all these guys were right as you walk in, a good 50-75 yards from the main event: and now we’re in. 360 degrees of gas powered glory. You really have to watch your step. There’s roving bands of kids on mini bikes. Guys on gas powered bar stools and all sorts of home made wtf?! Not to mention a few wagons: this kinda stuff is par for the course, who needs actual wood or dinoc vinyl?! I love it: think I got three in one shot: I’m gonna be honest. I didn’t know corvair made a wagon. Sue me. It looks killer! I’m not even a corvair fan but this one was pretty rad. The picture doesn’t do it justice. The entire thing was covered in flake and sparkled like a cheap Christmas ornament. This laSabres is too cool. It just looks wild. I wouldn’t buy one but man is that cool. Same goes for the fire truck: and now for the “wtf?!” Check out the combat Nissan pickup in the top left: here’s the next one. They outta be paying me for this:
I.C.E. agents must have been all over this one. Now we know what to do, the next time one of us can't get a title for a classic: They sure knew how to make wheelcovers, back then. There're a couple very close friended obnoxious women in this apartment building who would likely pry them off of my car, if I were to mount them and hang them on their walls
I want the Wenol concession at that show. What a bunch of cool cars. Echo everything that’s been said. I normally like them the way Henry and Louis made them, but I really appreciate it when someone builds something from scratch, or brings it back from the dead. Great show and thanks for sharing the pictures. Some neat wagons too!!!!
haha! The wenol might not get you too far. I had a booth there one year selling motorcycle parts and a friend’s mom set up a shoe polish stand, trying to sell her special polish. I think she sold two cans and one I think the guy just felt sorry for her cause she worked so hard polishing his raggedy boots! I prefer an all original for sure. But a lot of the guys that drive those cars can’t really tell you much about them except for how much it cost. Which is completely fine. Just not very interesting. Most of these cars have been built from the ground up by the owners and they can tell you about every nut and bolt. That and the creativity factor is a major plus. But I bet if you asked these guys with the rusted out model T&A’s if they’d rather have it fully restored for free you’d be hard pressed to find someone that attached to their work
