It isn't hard it just takes a bit of time and patience, I've done this to numerous vehicles from a 34 Cadillac I restored in the early 90's to my 85 Mercedes wagon. Having access to a tig is a big bonus though I have done it with a mig.

That was one of the suggestions from one of the fellows at the glass shop. We have guys that can tig out at our manufacturing plant. I think that I will look into giving that a try once they all come back to work.

It's been a while since I have posted anything on this thread, but I think I may have found a possible solution.
There is a 1964 Dodge wagon in the wrecking yard and it looks like it has a good mechanism. I needed to compare pictures just to make sure, but I am 99% sure it's the same.

All of the teeth look good. So, I think on my next trip I may pull it out.

Yeah, I think it is, and if you get it, make sure you lube it to a fare-thee-well; it'll help protect it from water.

Well, looks like I'm reviving an old thread. Hard to believe this much time has passed since I last addressed the issue of the rear window operation in the Fury.

I figured it was easier to take the entire tailgate as opposed to trying to remove the mechanism. Plus, it can't hurt to have a spare tailgate right?

That's what I try to explain to people when they see my parts wagon, to have those wagon specific parts is priceless and the non specific parts are great swapping fodder!....Longroofs Rule!

Possibly. I went to the glass shop yesterday afternoon to talk to the owner but we wasn't there. The receptionist said she would have him call me this morning so we could discuss things. I am really hoping this mechanism is either good and will work with a little elbow grease, or will at least provide the necessary parts to repair the one in the Fury.

I dropped the tailgate off with the window guys yesterday afternoon. I debated soaking the entire thing in PB blaster, but thought I might inadvertently cause some damage or at the very least create a huge mess for them to deal with. So I decided against it.

Well, The fellows at the window shop called me and said that the motor in the donor gate is good, but the regulator is no good. The regulator in my tailgate is good, but the motor is the problem.
So, the plan became "let's take the good part from this one and the good part from that one and see if we can't make one good complete one!"

I don't have any photos to share, but today was the day on the calendar marked "Fury- to Johnson's"
I dropped it off first thing this morning and by 10 o'clock he called me and said "car's done, come and get it when you have a chance. No rush, it's not in the way".
I got a ride over there on my lunch break.
I couldn't wait to try it out. Sure enough it works perfectly. Probably the first time it's worked right in 30 years!
    I'm very pleased.

The likelihood on most vehicles built before the late Eighties is a bad motor. Almost all regulators that were geared arm types are just about bulletproof. You got the lucky ticket with the good motor.
