No info with this photo. It's just a small plane on the roof of a house.

I'd sure like to know the story on that one....... You can see a small plane apparently taking off in the distance. Reminds me of a street only a couple of blocks from where I grew up. It was an east-west street, and Santa Monica Airport property was directly behind the houses on the north side of the street. We DID get our share of small plane crashes. You might remember one a few years ago involving Harrison Ford, who had an engine failure right after taking off from Santa Monica..... Crash-landed on a golf course off the west end of the runway.

There is debate on whether or not it was an actual crash or if it was some sort of publicity stunt.
The right wingtip is damaged, which would indicate a crash. The prop seems to be missing and some say the radial engine is gone as well. All of which could have been removed to make the removal easier.
It was also noted that there is no fire department presence, crowd control or paramedics. It's a bit of a mystery and there doesn't seem to be a clear indicator of what really happened.

Don’t hold me to it, but that color pattern and emblem sure remind me of Las Vegas police cars of that era. That would be my money. Who knows?

A commenter on the old motor wrote:
"I see that some posters have been able to read the “N” number on the plane (I couldn’t make it out). It was registered to a San Jose company in 1961. The photo was definitely taken in San Jose. Do a Google image search for “1964 San Jose police car,” and photos of a ’64 Plymouth Savoy pop up immediately in the same livery as in the photo."

    So I did.

OMG you’re right. It looks like almost all they used were Plymouth’s. It would be neat to run across a photo of a police wagon. You know they had to have them.

Looked and didn’t find any ‘64 police wagons. Tons of ‘68s with all the Adam 12 photos, but did find an interesting picture of mom, dad, and snooky and their ‘64 Plymouth. Cute article from their son. A4D8A518-52AA-4D11-A18E-70FB49C5CC23.png

Did some exploration on Google Earth, and found the house the plane landed on. It's address is 2110 Bayhaven Dr., San Jose, CA. Immediately in back of these houses is the property of the Reid-Hillview Airport in east San Jose. It appears that there are currently some efforts going on to close the airport permanently, due to high levels of lead being found in neighborhood children. (AV gas still has lead in it....)

I started looking on G.E. around the San Jose Airport, but couldn't find any 'matching' houses. My 'identifier' for looking was the 'A-frame' roof style on the 2-story house 3 houses to the left in the photo, and the placement of the garages on the lots shown. Looked for adjacent small airports, and found Reid-Hillview about 4.5 miles S/E of San Jose Airport, and very quickly found the street in question. The 'plane house' is the one with the 2 silver cars in the driveway/parking area.

I'd speculate that it was a 'lucky' accident. Plane may have had engine trouble taking off, did a tight 180* turn to come back to the airport, engine quits right then, and the pilot attempts to set it down on the residential street, maybe a hard landing, and the plane actually bounces back up in the air, and lands of the roof of the house. I suspect part of the landing gear may have penetrated the roof itself, causing the plane to 'stick' there.
