I bet that 512 has enough torque to pop the rear windows out!! Did you have to notch the strut towers for the headers?

Haha, not mine. I'd probably be dead, or in the hospital if it was. :49:

Didn't they use a lot of Fairmonts for cabs in Mexico?

Bienvenido and welcome to the best stationwagon site, anywhere. :Welcome:

My dad used to say his first test, when buying a used car, was to yell 'TAXI!", to see if the doors opened on reflex. Glad to say that mine wasn't. :whew:

I can see that though. In some parts of Mexico, the folks travel on old school buses with roof-racks for the luggage and sometimes chicken coops. They call them polleros (chicken runners). A Fairmont wagon would be a perfect Urban pollero-taxi!:biglaugh::biglaugh: Probably outlast the buses too! :)

I didn't know your wife was from Monterrey, Norm. I used to "talk" to a girl in Monterrey by computer. I stumbled onto a site and she worked there and we talked for months. Don't even remember her name or the company anymore.

Yep. I was at a client's condo working on his personal system to install the new, improved Windows 95 in July 1995. The International Fireworks festival was happening the next day. In pops my future wife with two teen girls that she was chaparoning to visit their sister, my client's wife. I was too busy with the installation that I didn't finish until 2 AM. His wife calls me the next day and ORDERS me to come to dinner! And that I couldn't touch the computer! (The Setup :D).

The condo is 13 stories above this fireworks display (4 days long). As the evening moves along, John the client leans over with his beer and tequila shooter and tells me that if I invite her to a movie, she'll probably accept. We did. I spoke no Spanish, She spoke no English.:biglaugh:

The next evening, I invited her to a nice outdoor cafe-bar, called The Monterrey on a yuppie street in Vancouver's West end, but on the way, I spotted an open bookstore. We went to the cafe and ordered drinks, then I sign-languaged myself into telling her to just wait a few minutes and went back and bought two English/Spanish dictionaries and some flowers, so we could chat. The place shuts down at 1:00 AM. The owner, a woman of course, lets us stay until 4:00 AM chatting away. (The Sting :D ) French helped me a lot to catch the words and meanings. I proposed the next day. She accepted. We got married in September 1995.

You have no idea of the outright fear of being scrutinized by a Mexican family of 5 sisters, 3 brothers, the future Mother-In-Law, and Don Ramon! :whew:. My army sargeant was a wuss, compared to that. :biglaugh:

Here we are 14 years later and her English is good enough to be a top retail sales associate at Sears and just got a promotion too. She's a great gal.

Great story, Norm. And well told...with the set up and sting and all! I was in Peru in the late '80's and TRIED to date a local girl from Lima. She liked me, I liked her. Family didn't like anybody!

Maybe Peru has a quota on exporting their gals.:biglaugh:

We have a 'family' tradition of making a Rum-soaked fruitcake at Christmas. The whole story is here:

But here's a couple of pics. She's out right now, so I'm safe to post them! Shhh! :biglaugh:

No, I changed it to an original 3.3L six, but I kept the crossmember so I can install a stock turbocharged I4 from a 1988 Mustang or TBird (190 HP and 25 mpg.):D The original V8 only had 135 HP and 16 MPG.
