    I have purchased:

1988 Dodge Shadow, $100, hood flew off on the trip back to Ohio from Rochester NY and that was only the start of the fun I had with it.

1989 Ford Escort, $202.51, this car had, wait for it, 34x,xxx miles on it when I got it. Turned over 3 times. Guy owned a camera shop in Columbus and lived way up in like Mt. Vernon. 60 miles, each way, every day, for ten years. Changed the clutch ONCE. Changed the timing belt and water pump every 60K religiously. I sold this for $600 before moving to Texas again in early 2000 and ONLY because it had no AC.

1988 Buick Century, $275, from Ohio, very very rusty and I drove it back to Texas, changed out the fuel lines and brake lines and parking brake cable, and it was my reliable baby for a year, sold for $550.

1989 Toyota Tercel, $300, broken passenger window and very low compression, I did make it home from Queens NY to Texas but not much longer after that I scrapped it for $100.

1989 Buick Century, $250, from Erie PA, very very rusty and I drove this for a year after selling the '88, bonus the AC worked real well, this got impounded by an apartment complex I lived in while I was out of town one weekend because someone broke a window and they considered it an "abandoned" vehicle with a missing window. I couldn't afford to get it out of hock.

1984 Chevy Caprice wagon, $325, from Houston, the guy was in the middle of removing the 305 4bbl engine when he got a hold of a 350 4-bolt motor for his truck and abandoned the project. I bought it, he towed it up to Dallas for me, and I never got much further with it when the city towed it away for expired stickers.

1986 Volvo 740GLE wagon, $160, from Fort Worth, I drove this back to my apartment and it sat and sat and sat and I spent so much time and effort on the Caprice above and the Ford pickup below that I never fixed the overdrive switch and the oil and ATF leaks it had. Was a great car other than that, interior was baked but all there, even the AC worked. Apartments towed it off of course because the leaks wouldn't let it pass inspection.

1970 Ford F-100 pickup, $406, from Plano, this is Strong Bad II and I loved this truck and spent quite a bit on brakes and exhaust to get it street legal. Had the rag joint (steering coupler) come apart and nearly T-boned a Corvette in a pawn shop parking lot trying to get off the street with no steering! Sadly, it was stolen from me two months later. Never recovered.

1976 Ford Gran Torino, $355, from OKC, my baby and will be a daily driver again after I replace the original 36 year old exhaust to pass inspection. Might be selling this if I buy the red one I'm watching on eBay now.

2000 Dodge Durango, $1775, from OKC, my wife's baby, we bought it knowing it had a bad motor, replaced the motor, it's given us 3.5 years of reliable service only down twice, once for a failed water pump, the other time for constant overheating, it's been fixed, currently needs PS hoses and a good tune-up.

2000 Chevy Suburban, $3100, from Dallas, this is the current family hauler and we have spent a ton of money on it but still worth every penny. $2400 for a transmission, $650 for shocks and u-joints and diff oil, $1100 worth of tires, $300 for a trans cooler and lines, last major repair we're picking it up tomorrow we hope, $1140 worth of fuel pump and AC services, and it still needs speakers and the CD player doesn't work.

Pending, red 1976 Ford Gran Torino, bid at $460 now and ends Sunday, in Denver, this would replace my white one after I swap some bits over to it (hubcaps, fender, headlight panel, front bumper, AM-FM radio, etc). It's in way better shape even though it has more visible rust on the wheel arch and quarter, those are easier for ME to repair than the floorboard. Who knows I may end up keeping both of them.

I think I've had good luck on eBay. Set your expectations low and your bid even lower and you can do well, too.

WHILE I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT OFF BBAY YOUR LIST OF CARS LOOKS LIKE MINE IN THE 80s. I BOUGHT ALL MY CARS AND TRUCKS FOR LESS THAN A GRAND AND ONLY HAD A COUPLE OF DOGS ALONG THE WAY. I HAD MY OWN SCRAP GUY WHO WOULD HAVE THE CAR GONE BY SUNRISE. NOW YOU GET PAID FOR SCRAP. ALL THIS SHOPPING ON LINE SCARES THE CRAP OUT OF ME. IF I BUY ANYTHING ON LINE I GET A PREPAID MASTER CARD, I TRUST NO ONE WITH MY PERSONAL INFO. ANYHOW I DROVE 6 DIFFERENT WAGONS OF ALL PERSUATIONS FROM 83 TO 90. GOOD THING MY WIFE LIKES DRIVING FULL SIZE FAMILY STATION WAGONS. MIND YOU THERE WAS A COUPLE OF CARS MY WIFE AND KIDS WOULDNT DRIVE IN, OH WELL THEY MAY HAVE LOOKED BAD BUT RAN LIKE A CHARM
