Great old wagon and I envy your proximity to Woodward. One day I'll have to hit that cruise. Post some pics of your wagon out there.
Here is one photo from last years cruise. A friend of mine found it on one of the local news stations sites...I'm not the primary object, but I'm still in the photo! - lol I am literally 3 houses from Woodward! It's a lot of fun, and a lot of people. The official cruise is only one day, Saturday...but there have been cruisers out all month and this past week cars are crusin' and lined up all along WW. My neighbors and I set up a blue tent on the Trafford corner southbound side, pop by and say hi! 2010: A little rain doesn't bother us! VIDEO: 2010 Val-Cam
Ian, A1Awind, invited me to Woodward this year and I so wanted to go but couldn't. Although, it looks like it could be a maybe now. A problem that concerns me about going, though, is that I wouldn't know where to go or how to get there. I mean...I drive for a day and when I get there my car is swallowed up by a thousand other cars and I wouldn't even know where I could safely park. As I understand it...there is no actual show where you enter and park your car in your spot and then go around looking at other cars. Seems that you just go to an area where thousands of cars are driving around. I worry that it will just be a mess with no organization.
Just about every city along Woodward (from Pontiac to Detroit) has a car show going on. Some people rent spots and just park their cars to show off, others drive, some do both. Some car clubs rent out parking lots and cruise together. The state fair grounds in Detroit had an awesome show, and you could come and go when you pleased...sadly Detroit has closed the fair grounds silverfox: you can park on my street; I'll let you borrow my permit...as long as you give it back.
Jennine. There's not near enough Valiants and Darts left in the world. Good on 'ya for keeping it going. I'm sure you'll have "survivor" company on the Woodward cruise. P.S. Love the kids in the back seat.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
I appreciate the offer, Jeannine. But...is there a specific parade that the cars all drive in on a specific day? I see you driving with other cars....is that THE event? Or, like I'm thinking, there IS no specific event? I'm thinking that this event, while drawing hundreds of cars I would LOVE to see, is just too big for me. With all those cars, spread out in a string of towns, I wouldn't get to see everything. I guess I'm just worried that it would be too big for my liking. Not to mention that I don't like parking my car on the street during a crowded event. I like to stay relatively close to my car. Or stay in it during a cruise. I would have thought that the event would have been a parade of cars driving through all the towns on a specific route on a specific time schedule. As it seems to me...that is not the case and there is really no organization.
What blue canopy, Jer? EDIT: Ian is going to be be at the corner of business 75 and m-56 in Pontiac, by the way. Where ever that is.
Yes, and No. I don't do any events these days, I just drive around. I live next to a cemetery and they do a nice parade through down town Berkley. They don't come out onto Woodward, but the gates are on the corner and you can watch all the cars come out and go down 12 mile. Before and after the parade you'll see all the cars scattered about on WW. There is no "one big parade" so to speak, just a lot of people cursing. The car clubs stick together, last night I was driving next to a Corvette club there was about 30 all different years. There is a DeLorean club with about 10, and one dressed up like the Back to The Future time machine - lol There is no way one person can see every car that is there.
I noticed over on the For A Bodies Only Forum, that someone in Texas is parting out a 65 Valiant wagon. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=155493
