I spend most of my time here in AZ, but will be moving to Utah next year. I have a 79 Volare Wagon, aka Chick Magnet, has original 318-4BBL, only changes under the hood are adding the MP electronic ignition and an earlier version thermoquad, but most other things have been changed or modified. Running cop car sway bar in front, MP 1.0" bar in back, cop car rear axle/brakes with 2.9 Suregrip, bigger front disc brakes from a late B body, bucket seats and center console from an Aspen SE, sport mirrors, 15x7 cop car wheels and fat tires, and a built 999 tranny from an 87 D100. Rear iso-mounts are gone, running Dakota rear springs and early B body shocks. Eventually, when the motor needs work (has 126K now), I will add Magnum heads. Most of my parts come from local junkyards. Rust is a rarity here, but rotten rubber parts is not rare. My wife and I have recently retired, and we have grandchildren here in AZ and in Logan, Utah, so we travel I-15 a lot.
Well, I did, on my old computer, but seems they got lost so I will have to take some more in the morning.
...chick magnet hehe .... Bill...i like ya alreadyWelcome !! i still kick my own butt for passing up a 78 woodie wag a few years back...it was mint!! but it would have looked out of place in between all my Fords
Chick Magnet is the name my wife gave it the day it followed me home. She thinks she is funny, wait til I put decals of Leghorn Foghorn and some chicks on the back! And Rev, you should get a Mopar, it will give your Ferds something to aspire to.
Speaking of Fairmonts, has anyone here ever seen the "Ranchero" version of the 2 door version? Not many were made, and it wasn't Ford doing the conversion. I saw one here in Phoenix....they called it a Durango, believe it or don't....
I have never seen one in person, but I have seen pictures of it before. Hers is the only one I could find
Well, I am back after a long absence.... We now live in Utah full time, and visit AZ part time, still have grandkids in both places. I sold the chick magnet to a guy in the Netherlands and promptly regretted it. My current project is an 80 LeBaron coupe, details on that can be found on Farley's Diplomat site. I am known on a lot of Mopar sites under the same handle. Next project will be another wagon, tho. I have all the parts to make it as nice, or nicer than the last one, unless I go with a bigger wagon. Things were VERY unstable for the last year and a half. We no sooner started building our Utah house when the 7 year old granddaughter from Arizona got diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. It was scary for a time, but under the latest chemo she seems to be OK. Her name is Makenzie, and she added to the chick magnet's name, added the word Scary in front of it. If any of you readers are in the Phoenix area, you may have seen her, she has been on TV a lot, and has turned into a little fund raiser for Make a Wish and other charitable groups. You couldn't pay that girl to be quiet, well you could but you wouldn't get your money's worth. Anyway, things are better now that they have arrested the growth of the tumor and put a shunt in her head. We still have our house in AZ, so I now have a place to stash project cars until I am ready for them. I will be looking for another Mopar wagon. Thinking of going up in size, though, one of the early 70's versions. The engine bay of the Volare project probably still has some skin from my knuckles, that I am sure about. Anybody else in the phoenix area, or near Logan, Utah?
Welcome Back!! I am glad to hear that granddaughter is doing well..I will keep her in my prayers..I wish you luck in getting another wagon. Dave
