Hi i own a 1992 buick roadmaster estate wagon. The ac compressor bearing went bad and shredded the belt i was told by a friend need a compressor bypass pully to take its place as i dont use air conditioning anyways. Im having a hard time finding one every site i go to its always a part for another buick and when i put in the specs it will simply say "it will not fit your vehicle" I have a basic idea on how to wrench and i have a friend who knows more than me and he says it should be an easy job. can anyone direct me to where i can find a compressor bypass pulley? (its my daily driver) and its sitting in a parking lot near a power substation need to get it on the road soon
It may be cheaper and faster to get a rebuilt compressor or with luck find a good one at a junk yard at least for the pulley. Sorry, can't help with other info.
Personally, I'd just replace the failed bearing because I came from an era where we actually fixed things and I still have the pullers and tools to do so. We were parts repairers, not parts replacers.
I think this is what you need: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10055890-Original-Equipment-Pulley/dp/B007Q1J9V2 More info here: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulle...ce/363241-l05-ac-delete-belt-help-needed.html For the record I agree with ModelT and OldFox. Just fix what you have.
I did the compressor replacement when the bearings went bad on my Exploder; fortunately, I had a replacement unit in good condition already on the shelf, and when the time comes, I'll get the A/C redone. The problem in finding delete parts is that not many specified deletes, as the car companies were selling loaded cars at better discounts rather than allowing buyers to specify what they wanted. Production costs are actually cheaper that way. And, if selling the car becomes necessary, a working A/C will only add to the car's value.
the air conditioning is shot and i don't usually use air conditioning anyways i got to get it out of that lot soon because it needs inspected how much is a bearing for it? im also on a tight budget i mean did an over 20 yr old car give it away lol
Your compressor bearing is not bad......your clutch bearing is. It free wheels until you engage the AC and that is what seized. It probably cost about 12 bucks but you need the special puller to get it off. You can also just buy a rebuilt clutch assy and install it.
