hi all, Another Aussie ( not quite i was born in NZ) . I was trawling the web looking for wagon info that would relate to my particular type. it started life as 1960's Mercedes W110 Diesel sedan. Someone,In the 1970's made it into a wagon using a Holden roof and tail gate and installed a bigger 240D engine and manual trans. I just bought this thing on fleabuy and I'm off in the morning on a 3200 km drive to pick it up and tow it home//:coffee:. No pics just yet but once i have it I'll do that. Plans call for just getting it running and using it as a shop hack for my mercedes Resto biz.
Eventually it will painted and fitted with a 60's style roof rack ,the type with chrome rails and wooden slats. ;)

Welcome to the forum! Are you sure that it was a custom wagon conversion and not one that was done by one of the custom body builders in Germany or Switzerland? Mercedes would sell chassis and engines with the sheet metal from the windshield forward (known as a CKD)with various wheelbase lengths to companies such as Binz and they would build either wagons(or estate cars if you prefer),ambulances, and professional cars.I worked at a US Mercedes-Benz dealership for over 20 years and we had a couple of customers that had such vehicles.Sometimes you can tell from the VIN.For your car it is a 14 digit number and should start out 110(body series);110 or 111(diesel engine;010 or 011 if a gas engine);20 or 22(for RHD;left hand drive would be a 10 or 12 indicates standard or auto matic trans)and the 6 digits afterward which is the actual production number.A CKD vehicle may have a slightly different number(can't recall offhand;I've been out of it since 1992).
Some parts may still be available through Mercedes dealers believe it or not. When I was involved, you could still buy parts for M-B's right back to just after WWII.I dealt with several restorers and bought a lot of parts for them.

EDIT:If it was built by Binz or one of the other builders, there may still be a body tag from that company somewhere on the car.
