Since the movie was shot in Australia, chances are it was an Australian Holden (GM) or Ford something or other. Their vehicles looked quite a lot like U.S. vehicles (in some cases identical except for the steering wheel on the wrong side).
The one I saw was white and parked, it had a very 'American' look to it, like a Buick or Olds. The whole movie is a treasure trove of fine vehicles of all sorts.
Im going to have to Netflix that tonight man, you're so right though some way cool vehicles in that movie.
That movie is also the source of one of my favorite quotes: "Speed's just a question of money. How fast you wanna go?" (from the sign outside the service station) 1960 Ford Falcon I always liked that 1975 Holden Sandman. Lots more to see here: http://www.imcdb.org/movie_79501-Mad-Max.html
One of my favorite movie series. Love the Mad Max Ford Falcon. I contemplated getting an Aussie Falcon Wagon, like the one pictured below, but shipping is just too much.
When I played the movie last week my daughter was watching the beginning with me. Never before has she shown interest the rare time the TV is on, but she laughed and laughed as the chase unfolded, laughed at the crashes, the toddler barely missed, the explosions. Then it cut to Max with his family, with the soft sax music, and she was transfixed, especially by their little baby.
