I am looking at a 67 ford ranch wagon that looks very clean. asking price is 4800. I just want to know where to look for "typical" rust on these years. I Appreciate it in advance. Mark
Where it 'matured' matters. AZ=Rustfree, Northeast=Rust below beltine, East coast atlantic = top and down. Where you are in western WA, if the moss don't get it, the trips through the salted northern roads will. Also, Stormin' didn't mention it, Southern cars can rust at the lower windshield points, door tops, and along the hood and trunk lines. Get yourself a good magnet when you look at these cars! You want to minimize the "surprises" of rust.
Did you like that 'matured' bit? I cruised the Georgia and Mississippi junkyards when I was 16 with my dad, to find a stock dual quad 392 Hemi engine during a family trip to Florida. Couldn't believe how the topside of the cars were so badly 'matured', beyond the 'Patina' stage.
Is that the light blue one thats been for sale on Craigslist? Looked like a beauty, but was too far away, even for us. Check the bottom of the storage compartment in the rear and the bottom of the spare tire compartment (right rear). Also, check along the bottom, and inside bottom of the tailgate. Seems to be a popular place for rust. Finally (for me anyway), the frame rails seem to be an issue with these cars. Hard to believe that much steel could rust away so quickly, but it does. Whack em hard (and the boxes) with a rubber mallet (not hard enough to have to buy the car though, LOL).
Yeah, its the blue one on craigslist. I have to sell my jeep first, but it sure does look nice. I am probably going to try and go look at it this weekend. Thanks for all the info.
I saw that one earlier lol. I think that it would be a good idea to check it out aswell. who knows, it may be a good parts car or even a great running vehicle.
