Well, I just recently found this site, and decided to join. I've had wagons since I started driving over 12 years ago. My first car and long roof was a 1992 Honda Accord wagon, 5 speed. I added a bunch of little things and drove the wheels off it for 10 years, was a great reliable car. The car had many changes over the years, but this is when it looked the best. As my user name suggests, I also have a 1983 Malibu wagon which is a long term project. Currently the body is off the frame and the frame has been finished. Well, despite my honda being a clean Colorado car when I bought it in 2003, the typical 1/4 panel rot eventually popped out, and it got to the point of being un-inspectable this past year. So in October 2013, exactly 10 years after I bought the car, I parked it. Sad, but I was ready to move on to something a little more classic. I haven't had the heart to part with the car yet. In the meanwhile I drove my C10. Was looking for the right car. I bought a Volvo 245, which I ended up being very unhappy with. Lost a little cash on that car but was happy to be rid of it. In January this year I found and bought my current DD longroof. 1992 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Great car, one owner which had 92k miles when I bought it. Already have taken it on one long road trip and hope for many more. Also, I have learned a bit more about vehicle preservation since owning my Honda, and I plan to make this one last forever. Well thanks for reading! Hope to contribute a bit around here.
Welcome Malibu. Looks like you found a real clean Olds, there. Congratulations. Have fun with it and good luck on the Malibu project. Be sure to let us know how it's going.
Welcome to the SWF! That was a nice Honda. I notice you installed the fairly rare fog lamps for it. We have a few experts here for those GM B-body wagons. Yours is the last year for the Custom Cruiser. 305 or 350? Marshall
Yea the Honda was quite nice. I still have and am tempted to restore it at some point. I also installed the OEM Japan market cornering lights which are even more rare than the fogs, and did custom projectors with HIDs in the stock headlights. I'm also on the GM Longroof site..thats how I found this place. Went to WagonFest NY this past month, had a blast. The OCC is a 305 car. Has the basic options package, no added frills from the factory. I added a Panther rear sway bar and blue Bonneville seats. More to come, I also have an overdrive 4 speed manual I am currently rebuilding. 2 pedals are too few for me.
Hey man, aboard! Looks like a clean Custom Cruiser. They're great road cars. How far along are you on the Malibu?
well I'm about this far along...... Lack of motivation, been mainly focused on going back to school and work, plus keeping the daily drivers on the road! However.....I just put in offer on a nice house with a 24x40 garage, and it was accepted! So wish me luck, as the Malibu will have a solid roof over it if everything works out! That'll give me a serious boost in motivation to get it done!
So that's what a '83 Malibu wagon looks like.......... Sidebar: New house, with a big garage? You're going to want to know about this place, if you don't already: http://www.garagejournal.com/ Marshall
MalibuSSwagon, I just got a Cutless Crusier too...all be it a little older and I haven't had a chance to drive it yet...while around the block...I don't think that counts. Enjoyed reading your intro, thanks.
Good luck with your home purchase. Hope it goes smoothly for you. There's nothing like owning your own home and having your own garage/ workspace. My wagon is now living indoors after years of being outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Don't worry, your enthusiasm will return. Mine has also come and gone and thankfully returned again. With the car indoors and out of the elements, you're apt to work on it more. Good luck with that, too. *The frame looks good, BTW.
Malibu, glad to have you aboard. Very nice Olds wagon! Looking forward to progress reports (photos!) on your Malibu!
