im kinda stumped at what to do to get this looking right without spending a thousand dollars. the sides are ok on the lower half but the upper have has no wood image on it, the vinyl sticker is ok, but the image has peeled.

ive tried some shelving paper from lowes on the back tailgate, it looks good but i dont know how it will hold up, plus i dont think it will conform to the fender lips up front.

is there a way to paint over the sticker after it has been cleaned of any loose peelings to make a woodgrain look? whats an inexpensive way to got it looking good? there was a website "got wood" that sold high quality vinyl but it was around 800$, and i dont want to remove the underlying vinyl sticker if a can just lay another on top to restore the wood print.

Ashtray, this may sound dumb, but have you tried putting Lemon Pledge on the old wood? Is the old stuff torn and ripped or is it just faded because if it's just faded, it might be worth a shot with the Pledge.
Has anybody heard of or tried something called Penetrol on the wood trim? I remember my Dad had an old fiberglass boat that had faded terribly. This Penetrol stuff was oil based and did wonders to bring the color back. Admittedly, it didn't last long, but it did do a nice job. I wonder if they still make it.

I just found this on the internet. Check it out. I wonder if this would be good for all us woodie owners out there. If anybody dares to try it, be sure to let us know.

He seemed to have a bit of a problem with it being a "dirt" magnet, however.

not sure if you are thinking of the same thing, mine is a vinyl sticker with a wood image printed on it. the vinyl sticker remains, but the wood image has peeled from the sticker. like it was two layers. the image layer is very thin and peeling but under that is a vinyl layer that is mostly still intact.

    Awesome!

I got a call from Avery's Wood Vinyl rep yesterday, from an email I sent in 2007! She's sending me samples and product codes to their car vinyl lines and lists of local dealers. I'll post the info when I get it. She said she'd include info to keep in contact.

Didn't get what I imagined, but it's nice stuff.

Here's the product names and product numbers.

Silver Carbon Weave SF-100-875-S (nice chrome inserts for door panels?)

Black Carbon Weave SF-100-174-S (Dash panels on Mustang dashes?)

Black Carbon Fiber SF-100-134-S (Could be a nice accent on the outside or a dash?)

Bravo Burl SF-100-945-S(Dash wood replacement - too thin for outside)

Cheyenne Teak SF-100-946-S (Like the mid-80's Mopar and Chevy wagon lighter woodgrains or a Dash or Door panel insert)

This is their line up. Specialty Films (SF) - Printed Films:

Why not paint it on? They make wood grain rollers (paint rollers).

Spry down a base color like mahogany red, roll on a darker brown, spry a clear coat over it. As long as you get the colors right you should be able to match just about any station wagon decal.

It looks like you were on the right track , mine had the same problem the vinyl sricker was peeling the woodgrain image off at the trop where the sun hits it . i scuffed it down and went with a dark brown( listed as leather brown from krylon) and went to it , from 10 fet away its gorgeous, but again i dont know how long its going to last, car is two tone cream and brown now , i have got several compliments so it cant be that bad .. !
its only been donew about a week i will post some pics for ya . .(y)
