mines about the size of the back of the wagon....oh...it is the back of the wagon !!! ....although...i keep thinkin about buying a small OLD travel trailer....but then...i'd have to go camping
I Goofed I sort of knew the Tin Can Tourist RV winter meet was sometime at the end of January. They often hold it at Cedar Key, Florida, around 40 miles S.W. of where I live. But I kept forgetting to check the dates. In fact I couldn't find the dates when I did check since I am not a member. Saturday evening the 28th. I decided to search farther. Yep, their campout was Jan 26-29 at Cedar Key, Florida. Weather was great all week. Too late to go Saturday, the day they usually have an open house, or rig. Figured we'd go over Sunday morning to check out what's left. Over slept and it was chilly. 40's is cold! Convinced wife that by the time we got there most would be gone and rest packing up. She begged, whined, and screamed. But by the time I drug my feet it really was too late. So, once again, missed the Tin Can Tourist winter meet here in Florida!!!!!!!:banghead3: Enclosed are the photos I didn't take because I didn't go !
Didn't vote, because I never towed with a wagon. But here's my last travel trailer, given up back in 2004....a '97 Wilderness 23BH (stock photo)
A '97 Ford F-250 supercab, with a 5.4 (not a 'Super Duty'. It was basically a 'heavy-duty' F-150.) Looked basically like this, except nicer - green with contrasting silver on the bottom. Lariat trim. Note the wheels- 7 lugs!!!
My travel trailer is a 16 ft Sunline Saturn. It is 7 ft wide, 7 ft tall + AC unit, and loaded it is around 2500 to 2700 lbs. Empty it is 2100. I test pulled it with the 6000 wagon back in its road days. Got lucky I was able to handle it going down a huge hill with a sharp curve at the end on the test pull, later on they told me they disabled its brakes. I towed it home with the 6000 (was only about 5 miles away). Then I hooked the brakes back up and went over everything else, and got a brand new WD hitch for $50 on closeout, and got towing mirrors. I test pulled it 10 miles to town and back which is up and down some good sized hills. The wagon was able to keep up pretty good and handled it well despite having 200k on it. Then I got started on a custom disc brake conversion for it, and then went through a divorce, and the trailer sat for quite a few years. In that time the wagon got too rusty, broke the trailing arm, and got retired to being the plow. Since the last 6 years I finished the new brakes, and tow it with my Trans Sport van, but surprisingly is not really much different except having a bit heavier suspension. Last summer I repainted the trailer frame and built a new AC cover out of a water heater skin. It looks a lot better as you can see in the last pic, with both 6000 wagons in view. Other trailers that were towed with the wagon are the Doghouse trailer I built back in the 90s. That one towed like a dream. I lent it to a coworker and it got rearended by a gas tanker semi trailer, turning it into a pile of toothpicks. The insurance money got me the Haulmark. It is about the same size and has a more rough and rigid torsion axle but has more capacity. I put custom disc brakes on that one too. These days I mainly use it for hauling wood. Despite being heavier than the Sunline when loaded, it tows MUCH easier because of the smaller and more aerodynamic wind profile. I put a lot of towing miles on both trailers behind the 6000 wagon which is now the plow. That car has been worked hard and it still runs well. Now I tow the Haulmark with the van too and for whatever reason it is tougher to tow with the van. I miss towing it with the wagon.
