I just finished watching a PBS documentary about station wagons and this forum was listed at the end. Apparently I'm not the only wagon enthusiast, who knew? Now that I know that there are others out there I guess it's time to make contact. My name is David, I'm living in Niagara Falls, NY and my wagon is a 1964 Bel Air.
aboard David, Thanks for the heads up about the documentary on stationwagons on PBS. If you could post some pics of your '64 BelAir wagon,,,that would be awesome. What are your plans for it?
Then and now I'm posting a pair of teaser pics for you Mr. Longroof. I'll be glad to answer questions later tonight. My car like most older wagons came with a story.
Welcome David. Keep in mind we only want true stories here. Most of us take this station wagon stuff very seriously!
I currently only have three cars with five doors. I'll come back when I'm more serious about wagon stuff.
David, Thank you for sharing the pics of your wagon. Very cool ride. I like the color, and the Torque Thrust wheels give it that vintage look... Is the black and white photo of the car back in the day? If so, it looks like it's seen it's share of family road trips. It appeared to be well loaded down. As for the stories about it, we'd love to hear them. Jack
I only have one wagon with only three doors but I am serious. My other cars are just for fun. :icon_drive: Some members don't have a wagon and they try to be serious.
Yes it's my car in the black and white photo. That picture was taken next to the Pacific Ocean during a month long summer vacation. The original owners bought the wagon to take a road trip from New York to California and back. The travel decals are quite a hit at cruise nights. Having never met the original owner I could only believe they were legitimate and not added by the second owner. That was until I was able to contact the son of the first owner. He was 15 years old when his family made the cross country trek. He verified the decals after I sent him current photos. He then sent me the black and white picture which thrilled me to say the least. I now have a copy of the atlas the family used with their route drawn on it. I also have a copy of the daily itinerary that they kept which includes mileage, lodging and sight seeing notations. There was a mileage and maintenance log book kept from day one with the car when my wife bought it for me.
