Hi, all. My name is Justin and as of the 6th I'm the proud owner of my first wagon. It's a 1991 Oldmobile Custom Cruiser with 182k old lady miles on the original boat anchor 305. My previous car was an 87 Monte Carlo SS that I drove around for a few months until it started hemorrhaging oil so, I sold it off and made a small trip down the road and picked this up. I found out about these wagons off US Top Gear (being born in 1994 I don't have any memories of station wagons) and after I saw those big comfy seats and fake wood trim and V8 drive train I knew my next car needed to be one. I was really gunning for a Roadmaster but the Olds was really close and better yet really cheap. My mom thinks it's hilarious and my dad thought it was funny at first until we got it home and started admiring it. I was an active memeber on the Monte Carlo forum but it seems kind of irrelevant now so I look forward to stalking the Wagon forum and learning all I can. my old car my new wagon (complete with Jesus fish) I also have a little album of different angles, interior, and motor shots if anyone would like to see more. http://imgur.com/a/SQJ7n
Did you pick this up from N.C.? If so, we featured it on a thread in our "Auctions, Craig's List, etc..." section a few months back. No pics left, unfortunately, but it looks familiar. Welcome to the SWF, Justin! Marshall
I bought it from a man in Hagerstown Maryland about 65 miles from my house. ~Just ran a VIN check on it and look at that. The man I bought it from wasn't very honest, shocker shocker. Did the feature thread have any extra info that might help me out while I own this wagon?
Welcome to the nuthouse we call home! I think you will fit in just fine around here! Great choice of wagon, by the way. Absolutely beautiful. You will have the old girl for a LONG time with some care. The other thing is, when you get fed up with the boat anchor or it starts to hemorrhage oil, it is easy enough to swap in a real engine. My choice for these is the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban 327 (5.3l) with the displacement on demand. The fuel economy will raise more than a few eyebrows, and the performance will be transformed, since you will more than double the horsepower. Have fun and be sure to post all the pictures you can. We love our station wagon porn around here!
to the forum. We've been stalked by members much older than you so we will be ready. Besides, we need young members to keep the tradition going another 75 years or so. Looks like a nice wagon. Actually I retired in 94 so we have something in common.
The thing about that old thread was that it featured a '91 Olds Custom Cruiser - with wood. That's unusual, because you couldn't order '91/'92 Custom Cruisers with wood. So.... the wood was added later - aftermarket. Chances are, yours is the wagon in that ad.......
Wow, your first wagon is one of the best! I hope it continues to please you! I wonder if there is some kind of leather repair for the front seats, it would be a shame to lose that. The whole car looks like an easy resto.
Thanks all for the warm welcome. I can't wait to get this thing on the road! Yesterday was 75 and sunny, perfect cruising weather but I was stuck on foot. Just have to replace the driver's side tie rod end, set of new rear shocks because the ones on there now might as well be non-existent, and some tags. Speaking of those shocks, I haven't jacked the car up yet but does anyone know if I NEED the airbag shocks or if it'll be okay with conventional shocks? It does have the air pump in there, it kicks on every now and again when I'm showing someone the car and we're climbing around in it.
