Nice wagon, 66TC. Are your windows tinted, or does the car have AC? A window out of any '65-'66 4-door sedan Chrysler or Dodge will work, according to an expert friend with those Mopars, so that opens up many cars to choose from. To be sure, take a pic of the window "bug," the small etched manufacturer's code on the right window and post it so we can try to match it up. I'm coming to the Veterama in Mannheim, Germany in a few weeks, and may be able to bring one along. TG
left door window Hai TG, Thanks for replying, I have made the pictures you asked for. About the glass: it''s tinted glass, it' looks like green. I have made a picture which is attached but it''s probably not clear enough. More important I think is de production broadcast (pic 4) which says in the third row, number 52 (clear or tinted glass: 1). Of course with this code the color can be defined. The window bug is shown in picture 2. code: SAFE GUARD SOLID TEMPERED TINT (pentastar) (PPG) SAFETY GLASS AS2 M10 26115 I copied the dimensions of the right door glass on a piece of cardboard(I need the leftdoorglass) as can be seen on the pictures. I would be pleased if you can bring a window to Europe, and I will make the necessary arrangements to pick it up. It''s not very close to my house, Mannheim is a 250 miles drive one-way (400 km). But I would be glad to have a original glass! Please let me know what the costs are. I have checked it out: Veterama is in the weekend of 8-9 october. Also: the car has AC but it doesn''t work. Ok, thanks again, I like to hear from you, Martyx
Hi Martyx, Thanks for the pictures and the bug info. I should be able to get the glass from a Georgia yard early next week. They are looking for a tinted rear door window and think they have one, and will call me back in a day or so. It may not have the same exact code, but as long as it closely matches what your bug says, that should be fine. It will cost me $75 US, and I have space to either carry it on the plane or pack it carefully in a box. It won't cost me anything to transport it, so if you want to do it, let me know. Not having done this before, do you think Customs will charge anything? I'm sending you a PM with further details. This should be fun! Regards, TG
Wow, this is amazing. Only through the station wagons forums website would such international assistance occur. What an offer, '66. You're the best.
An update on the '66 T&C window...Went to a NE GA junkyard today and got the LR door window glass from a '67 Dodge Polara SW with tinted glass and A/C. The Hollander's Interchange Manual (ironic in that it's going to Holland!) lists all '65-'68 T&C and Polara SW's (Monacos, too) use the same glass, and it measures out the same as your drawing. United says its dimensions are okay to carry on, so that's the plan, after wrapping in some good bubble wrap. Should fit under the seat with no problem. Thanks Silverfox and Snooterbuckets for the good words, but please hold the praise till we at least get this thing across the Pond! It will be a very well-traveled window by the time it gets to Mannheim (after a train ride from the Frankfurt airport), so its journey is just beginning. I've had many good turns done for me in this hobby thru the years, on many forums, too, so it's just a way to payback in a rather unusual way. Martyx and his son will be coming to Veterama for the first time (it's my second), so as already mentioned, it should be fun! TG
The praise is still deserved, 66CS. Even if something should happen to that glass on the way, heaven forbid, you are still the nice guy that is helping a car guy across the pond that can't get to the part he needs! Again....KUDOS. You are a true member of this wagon family!
Very cool of you 66CS. Sho nuff a solid car guy thing to do helping a buddy across the pond. Have a good trip! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Well, I talked again with United and while they said I could probably carry the glass on, I figured I should make it a traveling crate. One piece of plywood, two 2x4's, a couple of casters and a handle, and now I can check it and not worry (it's 40x26x5.75). The foam's been cut out to the shape of the window, which is well padded; all told it weighs 48 lbs, just under the 50 lb per bag luggage limit. The crate is always something I can re-use, so this was as good a reason as any to build it. Larger Here's hoping it arrives A-OK, and thanks again for your words of encouragement. We all know that feeling when you really need a part and just can't get it (my '66 has been languishing for years), so think of this as building international goodwill! TG
Hey Guys! I'm came back from Veterama yesterday, and I have the glass! I'm so happy with it! I'm gonna built it in the car on thursday, and i will send a picture then. Thanks guys, and especially 66CountrySedan, Thanks! Martyx
As Martyx said, the glass arrived safely after its trans-oceanic schlep. Found some great (non-wagon) parts at the Veterama, so the trip was worth it, though too short. Larger, I got some quizzical looks with the crate during the trip. Larger, as of tomorrow, Martyx's rear seat passengers will finally have a clear view of passing scenery! (The unusual lower-body lighting was from an oncoming taxi when they pulled out from my Mannheim hotel). It was very cool that they drove the T&C on their 400km trip from Holland. The best souvenir from this trip, totally unexpected, are the wooden shoes Martyx presented to me at dinner that Friday night. They're really quite comfortable! TG BTW, I like your new '60 Mercury Colony Park Country Cruiser avatar, too!
This is a great story and you have represented the forum and humanity well, 66CS. Just a really great story. And, hey...that's a great looking wagon, Martyx! KUDOS to you both.
