Man, I'm glad that I found this MB. Looks like something that's right up my alley. My first car was a station wagon -- 1979 Old Custom Cruiser with the infamous 350 diesel engine. It was my mom's car, and she treated it very well. Unfortunately, the engine could not handle the weight of a 16-year old driver (me) right foot. Since I've gotten married, my wife has owned a steady string of wagons in the form of VW Passat, but right now we have a 1998 Volvo 90. It was the last rear-wheel drive wagon volvo has ever built. I also had a project car: int he form of a 1957 Jeep Utility Wagon. By today's stadards, it looks like an early SUV with a woody wagon body. Anyway, glad to have found this board. i look forward to posting pics and chatting! :icon_drive:
thanks for the welcomes. The willys wagon was bought as a complete basket case. Actually I prefered to think of it as a big, rusty model car that had to be assembled. I got about 1/3 of the way through it, and then had a kid on the way. I knew I wouldn't have the money to finish the job once my son was born and we went down to one income, so I punted it off to someone who could do it right. My wife cried when the wagon sold. Here's a picture of the old girl (the station wagon, not my wife): http://www.geocities.com/eric_seeger/
By the way, I posted some pics of the wife's car in the volvo gallery. And i posted an old Willys Wagon ad in the American > Other gallery. I'll post an ad for the wagon/paint scheme that I had envisioned for my old project. Still breaks my heart...
trust me. the search continues. Just this morning I whipped a highly illegal U-turn when I saw an old Volvo Amazon for sale on the side of the road. I'd love to get one of those or a P1800 (either one as a wagon would be great). If not that, a nice big american steel sled from the 1960s would be great. Or another Willys wagon in better shape... Man, the list goes on and on....
Welcome, boy that Jeep sure did look good. Speaking of Volvos. Did you see the one on ebay? The 122S station wagon that was never sold and had 80 miles on it. I think it was a 65 or thereabouts. Well Jamie Kitman a columnist for Automobile Magazine bought it. Since he was the first owner Volvo said they'd honor the 6 month 6 thousand mile warrentee. Of course all the new gaskets, carb work and tires weren't covered. I think he paid $25k for it. He then resold it to Colin Powell (former secretary of state) who is a Volvo fanatic. Just an interesting tidbit about a Volvo.
Welcome to the forums Eric. Thanks for posting the pictures, I ll create a category for the Willys tomorrow (Ill also fix the picture that shows up in black). I have a Vovlo wagon as well, a 1997 850...
Welcome, Hans...Asheville NC...almost made it this year to visit the annual meeting of the the Riviera Owners Association which was held there last weekend (without my Riviera... a bit too expensive to take the car with me across the pond)
Buick Riviera fan in the Netherlands?! Hmm. How the hell do you come by those big old boats out there? Was Buick ever sold in NL?
Buicks were, and more or less are, sold here, not that many though. The import of US cars (25 years and older; taxes ) was booming last 10 years. My 75 Riviera is an original NL car. Every year I organize a Riviera meeting here in summer. Approx 45-50 Rivieras are showing up. I estimate that there are about 150 Rivieras in NL (which is quite a small country as you know (less than 1/2 the size on Maine f.e.) The 2006 meet: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v399/Riv71/Rivierameet06/?start=al
