I am not sure why I have not found this site until now but it looks like a great place for this for us who are nuts about old station wagons. I sold my 55 Chevy 210 Handyman last year and have regretted it ever since. I recently traded a 66 GMC Suburban for a project 56 210 Handyman that I have been planning to redo as a tribute to my 55 with the same Black & Cream 2 tone paint theme but those plans have now been shelved as I found a nice 63 Mercury Colony Park that I couldn't pass up. I am attaching photos of each wagon with the hopes of getting lots of good ideas on how best to improve the Merc as I feed my station wagon addiction. I appreciate any feedback from fellow station wagon aficionados.
, I think we all have regrets of "the car/wagon we should have not let go...I sure do. Your 56 doesn't look bad at all, looks like a driver, is it? I just love your Colony, not to many I have seen that i don't like....I'm kinda bias on those. I don't think I've ever seen a red 63 ever, looks sharp with the white roof and wood. It's sitting a bit high in the front, no motor?
Welcome to the party. Looking at the '55, I can feel your pain. That's sweet! You do have a good pair though to keep you busy. That Mercury is a definite head-turner.
The 56 is a driver/project needing a lot of TLC but it is equipped with a 350, 700R4, PS, PDB, Ididit Tilt, etc. It needs body work, paint, new/rechromed bumpers and upholstery. It may have to go to fund the Mercury upgrades. The Mercury has a rebuilt 390, C6 and new suspension but needs some minor mechanical work to get it back on the road. In the photo it is sitting up on blocks to keep a flat tire from getting destroyed which is why it looks like that. The plan is lowered suspension, AC, minor detailing after getting it running then enjoying the snot out of it. I was looking for a 61 Pontiac Catalina Safari like the one we vacationed in when we were kids but this Colony Park made itself available so I'll just condsider it to be my poor man's Woody!
to the wagon train, Mike. Nice wagons for sure. I like the CP you are keeping a lot. Keep us posted on the progress!
hey...whatya mean 'poor mans' ????................. I own a 64...and its the holy grail for meit took me years to find one. to the board Mike
I say "Poor Man's" because that's what I am! I will likley have to sell the 56 to do what I have planned for the 63 CP but I think it's a keeper. What I really like about the Merc is that I have yet to see one at the car shows I go to here in NorCal. Do you have pics of your 64?
i think theres some in my profile....the board wont let ya duplicate....i dont think...hold it...i'll try bwahaha...i tricked the board the left picture was from when i found it...(by accident)
Mike. The 55 210 is so cool. I've known so many people get rid of great cars 'cause they got bored when the project was done. Since I'm a Ford guy that CP is fantastic though. Way too big for my garage but I'd make room for it.
