I'm over here trying to convince my wife that a nice traditional full-size station wagon is a reasonable alternative to a Suburban. We had a Suburban before and she wants another one. I'm not thrilled with the idea of giving up my nice big cash money green Oldsmobile sedan for an SUV. I'd rather give it up for a nice big cash money green Oldsmobile station wagon.

I'm not stuck on green, though...or Oldsmobile...in fact the blue '74 Impala up in PA on the for sale section (from the derby board, another place I'm a member and wish I could save all the decent cars) would be perfect. It matches my wife's '99 Taurus, it has 9 seat belts, and the air probably works. Oh, we have *7* kids, which is why we need 9-passenger seating.

Sad to say the 77-90 GM wagons are out (8-passenger) as well as the dual-facing third rows in all the Fords. I'm also hoping for a small-block engine so most of the Chrysler wagons (along with 455-powered Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs) are out. 350/351/360 is all we need, maybe a 400 or 403.

I'll be searching my tail off trying to find the best Suburban alternative out there, and it may well have to come from Texas, since with this many kids I don't think a road trip is financially possible to pick it up. Keep posting the ones you find and I'll try to throw up the ones I find that I can't use (or even if I can use them but can't buy them right away).

Thanks for setting up a live board where wagons can be discussed. They're not so welcome on other boards and the Yahoo groups are slow and not very busy.

Hey, OCCUPANT, you're lucky you guys aren't here. We've got a lot of Mennonite and Hutterite colonies up here in the Farm belt, with old Suburbans from the 60's up to today. Cornbinders, Chevvies, Fords, even the odd Dodge.

Anyway, good to see you've come to the Great Side of the Force! Don't tell your wife about the Suburbans up here until you've got a dozen kids, then you get a second one for a trailer. :Welcome:
