Agreed. I planned a family picnic in a park close by our home for early October. It was great to get everyone (well mostly everyone). It was chilly but we had salads, a bbq, more food them we could eat. We played what I call "old church games" like sack races and three legged race, etc. We made mom the judge and she handed out ribbons to the kids who were partnered with an adult. But no one was a loser, they just tied for third. We had a group birthday cake and sang to those who were having a b-day soon. No candles on the cake, everyone got a candle to hold then make a wish and blow it out.
The kids went on a scavenger hunt. One of their items to find was a rock as big as their hand. They were to then paint the rock and give it to their adult game partner.
We real had a great time goofing around and just being together.
Food, family and fun can't bet it.
