OK.... Frankly, I'm sick and tired of coming to this site day in and day out and not having a decent collectible station wagon of my own to talk about. I think I've waited long enough. I'm not driving the HHR as much for work right now (stopped driving over the Cascades for assignments), so I think I can get by putting a few miles on a nice classic wagon. Thing is, I will need to sell the HHR in order to have the funds to buy something else. That's what is going to make this tricky. Now I'm mulling it over in my head as to what wagon to get. I won't have the logistical ability to have a 'project'. I've decided whatever I get has to be as least 75% 'done', and be a fairly reliable driver. I should be able to get enough money out of the HHR to do this. Down to specifics, what will I be looking for? The short answer is most everything - as long as it isn't red. Hopefully well-equipped, bigger rather than smaller, nothing older than '57 for sure - but chances are it will be either a '77-90 GM B-body or a '86-'91 big Colony Park, since those are the most plentiful on the market. Some of you might suggest a later B-body with an LT1, but I've never really been a fan of their styling. I like squares. Not completely ruling one out however. If I had my act together sooner, I could have snagged that nice Buick in Portland that E-bayed today for $6,100. Still have to get a few things together before kicking off the plan.....but soon. Marshall
I too really liked that Portland Buick. There will be more. Sounds to me like you have the start of an adventure in the works. You more than anyone should have a good idea of what to look for in a vehicle. It will be interesting watching how you make out. Do you have any specific ideas about what you won't do? Like distance?
You can buy a good 60s or 70s wagon for 6k or even less. When you decide on something and get the funds together post it, ill look in my area for it for you
I'm not really keen on the idea of buying a vehicle sight unseen. So, I'm probably limited to the left half of the country. Otherwise the travel expense is just too great. I may want to use a few of you bird-dogs though. Got some prime wagon areas in Texas, Florida, Arizona etc.... Hoping to get lucky and find one in my own back yard so-to-speak - California. Not 'officially' looking yet.
Be glad to put a set of eyeballs on any wagon you find in the Phoenix AZ area Krash. If you find one here just say the word.
Hold out for a Colony Park. I love my Caprice, don't get me wrong, but there's something special about a CP.
Well...this is good news, KK. I was going to suggest you look at the Buick that sold today, but, I knew you weren't ready. When you ARE ready, the area you live in is a super area to find great cars that are rust free. You have a whole coast of them that all of us wish WE had! Please keep us posted so we will know when you are ready....I can't wait to look for you!
Glad this is in the works for you KK. I'm on the rusty half of the country, too far away, but I'll sure be glad to see you get something you really like. Of course I agree with CE, but I also really like the '77-79 Bonneville Safaris and the dark di-noc Caprices from '77 and '78.
I don't speak the "b-body, C- body or l,m,n,o,p-body" but is this what you mean? http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/2991017837.html 1977 caprice classic station wagon - $3200 (San Antonio, tx) Date: 2012-05-01, 8:24PM CDT Reply to: krq4g-2991017837@sale.craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] 1977 Caprice Classic Station Wagon. Yup - that's a B-body.. For those, my preference would be the Buick or Pontiac versions. Not really ready to 'go' quite yet....
Good luck KK. The only thing is you hurt my feelings....No RED wagons! But, I agree, tans and browns seem to look nicer in the 70's / 80's wagons.
I've just never really liked the color red. Generally don't buy any red clothing. Don't have any red rooms in the house. I love the color orange though......
