has anybody had anything made? thinking about having a canvas cover made to cover from the top of the 3rd seat back to the gate, with velcro or snaps.

In addition to keeping stuff out of sight, I am concerned about the amount of heat / sun getting back there. It totally melted the plastic that new wiper blades come in.

Must get really hot back there.

I am really dissapointed with the wagons' cargo space. The under floor storage is great but hard to access if there is anything back there already, and I am not convinced it's watertight.

That leaves no hidden storage except for the glovebox.

I do like the trunks in the other cars

Jeff, I was at our local WalMart and noticed some of the new throw rugs they sell nowadays, thinking about a darker cargo carpet for mine. Solid colours, UVA protection (3M Scotchguard works great), and some don't have that non-slip crap that turns to powder in hot sunlight.

Lengths are variable, and widths run from 36" to 60". They also have those "Rubbermaid" type clear runners with the little grips underneath. Worth a look.

On some Fairmont wagons, they have a 'tool storage' compartment in the Driver's side cargo wall. Mine has it. I plan on putting another one on the passenger side, using some sheet ABS or PVC to fit a small set of wrenches and tools into. I've got booster cables, windshield and gasline anti-freeze and a spare set of V-belts in mine, which are standard necessities in this cold. But I also want some place to snap in a folding shovel inside the other compartment.

If I can't find a stock door panel and frame, I'm going to use a tupperware-type storage box lid and frame, probably from a stationary box, and fit one in.

    Here's what mine looks like:

With the new darker fabric, the only carpeting left to change is the cargo area, in mine:

Then I'll use this Mustang hatch cover (fits right in too!) with that split rear seat, reupholstered with my new Baby LTD chocolate seat fabric, to cover the cargo area up completely. Good old SEM Vinyl dye to the rescue! :D
